Prepare to be just as confused as Ponyo is at times in the movie as Disney has managed to cripple their first Miyazaki Blu-ray release in the US. Set for release on March 2nd in a BD/DVD combo pack, Ponyo is getting a bilingual release, something that fans had to fight hard for with Disney on DVD back when Princess Mononoke was being solicited as English only. Disney has since then brought all Studio Ghibli movies out with bilingual (or more) presentations. But the question fans had this time around with the first Blu-ray release was whether we'd get high definition audio - or Japanese at all really - since Japan and the US are in the same region. What it comes down to in the end is depending on where you  want your lossless audio, your language of choice, you may have to import as Disney favors the English language and gives the Japanese about the same quality as a DVD. This is actually better than the Japanese Blu-ray makes out with the English audio which only gives you stereo, never mind 5.1.

Once again, the English get the better treatment with the sound.  They better not do this with Totoro and Castle when they get released on Blu.  Otherwise, I'm going to be really upset.
