How cool is this: the Walt Disney company, which a few years ago shelled out big bucks for a stateside release of Hayao Miyazaki's Japanese anime masterpiece PRINCESS MONONOKE has just acquired the rights to Miyazaki's latest film, SPIRITED AWAY. By was of context, AWAY is the highest grossing film in Japanese history.
What's more, the Mouse House has tapped TOY STORY director John Lasseter to oversee the American dub which will be released in theaters.
"This is one of the greatest animated films ever made, and I absolutely love it," Lasseter told the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. "My job will be to act as the guardian of this amazing work."
He assures nervous anime fans no changes will be made to the animation, and no cuts will be made.
