I don't know, but I had a very good summer at the movies.  I saw a young Kirk kick ass, 3 guys steal Mike Tyson's tiger, cool fucking robots, Snake Eyes, and a lot more.  This movie looks incredible, and I can't wait to see it this weekend.  They have been playing the trailers alot on TV and I saw a NYC bus with the poster on it the other night while I was visiting, so it is being promoted well.

The beauty of this movie, only $30 million to make.

This is starting to remind me of the way The Matrix came from nowhere and redefined a genre. Obviously most of us have seen the District 9 trailers for a while now and caught the buzz, but the early reception seems pretty amazing. I remember going to see The Matrix on opening weekend because I thought it looked interesting. I walked out thinking that was one of the best movies I'd ever seen (and still do, first film only of course). I still can't believe that there was barely anyone in the theater. I told everybody about it. Word of mouth was what did it for The Matrix, and I expect the same for District 9. I've been excited for this since the first teaser and now I can't wait.

Reasons why people won't go to District 9: "breathtaking originality, putting dozens of larger pictures to shame with its wit, soulfulness and imagination" Those concepts are difficult to grasp with all the shiny pretty explosions going on this summer.

As of right now it's sitting at 100% on rottentomatoes.com...

Should be an experience this weekend.

Found out last night this movie will have a midnight opening here.  I will be there.

District 9 sounds great - how long has it been since we have seen an original, clever, "adult" science fiction movie?! -  but have to echo those taking issue with the assertion that it was a bad summer movie season. We have beaten this point to death, I know, but I am definitely in the camp that a movie can be fun and entertaining while falling far short of "classic" status. I enjoyed WATCHMEN, STAR TREK, HANGOVER, WOLVERINE, TRANSFORMERS, and GI JOE. Thats not a bad summer season, in my book.

Clear sign that the summer season hasn't been all that great, Watchmen, released in March, is being used as an example of a cool summer film.

I can't wait for this!  I was hooked by the very first trailer.  Definitely watching this weekend.
