Djawadi to Take on Frankenstein & Co. in Hotel Transylvania Score

According to the Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency, Ramin Djawadi will compose the music for Hotel Transylvania, a new animated comedy from Sony Pictures Animation. Djawadi recently scored Open Season for the same studio.

Hotel Transylvania is directed by David Feiss and Anthony Stacchi, who also helmed Open Season.

Based on an original story (no relation to the Chelsea Quinn Yarbro book of the same name), the movie takes a 21st Century look at the stories of the classic monsters Frankenstein, The Mummy, Dracula and The Werewolf as they hide out in a hotel on the outskirts of Transylvania now that 21st century technology has seemingly made them irrelevant. It’s scheduled to premiere for Christmas 2009. Before that, Djawadi will score Mr. Brooks, a psychological thriller starring Kevin Costner, William Hurt and Demi Moore, directed by Bruce A. Evans. It’s produced by MGM Studios and premieres on March 23 next year.

Djawadi’s previous credits include Ask the Dust and Blade: Trinity. He has also written additional music for films such as Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Island.

When I read about this movie I get sick. I'm sure it will be entertaining if done right since I love the classic monsters...but couldn't they have USED ANOTHER NAME?!? "Hotel Transylvania" is one of my favorite vampire novels and would make a great film. It's also the only thing I know that is named "Hotel Transylvania," it's not like the term is part of the cultural lexicon. Now the name is taken by a CGI animated kiddie flick.
