You know, I know this might be strange, but I hope we never find out HOW Coulson is still alive.

He could have a mutant healing factor.  It could have been a LMD.  They could have faked his death.  However it happened, the idea of the unknown kinda adds to Coulson's mystique.  The fact that we first meet him thinking he's just some low level gofor to being able to take out a group of robbers going for coffee to his not even blinking an eye when the most fantastic things are happening around him, him just mysteriously appearing alive goes in stride with his character.

what if....he is an agent of the Kree empire, sent to be the liaison between the Kree and the Earthlings?

Shogun, I love your idea! I hope they go with that and we never really get a direct explanation for his return. It's like the mystique that surrounded Wolverine when he was first in the X-men. You kept getting hints but for the longest time they didn't really tell you what he was all about.

I agree with you Shogun... keep the mystery alive.... at least until season 2

As much as I like the character, it cheapens the movies to bring him back. It becomes laughable and melodramatic. That threatens the gravity that Marvel has established in their movies.

Comic books have gotten silly: everyone has a healing factor, everyone is a genius and everyone dies but then they return to great fanfare. You can literally burn the flesh clean off of Wolverine and he still comes back. Ridiculous!!

Cheating death works for a select group of characters like The Joker.

I love a good story and a good story keeps its gravity. Let Kraven, Jason Todd, Matt Hagen (Clayface2), Punisher- all of them- and Phil Coulson rest in peace.

I think they'll keep things mysterious about Coulson's resurrection at least until the end of the season or sometime into season 2. Maybe drop some hints or clues along the way.

1. Coulson's an android/LMD. Whose unaware that he's a machine.

2. Coulson's an alien whose alienness was discovered when Loki "killed" him.

3. He was healed by Asgardian science/magic.

4. Extremis

Rizing, what do you mean comic books have gotten silly? They've always been silly. Characters who were thought dead or "permanently" lose their abilities and end up coming back are a staple of comics for over decades. How many times has a villain or hero been destroyed and a year or two later when a new creative team takes over they come up with a way to bring him back? Dr. Doom, Thanos, Luthor, Batman, Superman, Prof X, Wolverine, Bucky are just the names that come off the top of my head. It's part of the charm of superhero comics.

Doing this stuff isn't ever going away. The trick nowadays is to do it with much more cleverness.

Umm maybe he just was healed in a hospital.  Maybe he never dies and it was just a lie.  I always kind of figured that anyway.

@monkeyfoot

I respectfully disagree. I was reading comic books from the 90's up to maybe 2005- which was around the time all the gloss and spectacle was becoming common place. Sure, there was Superman's death, but I knew that was a total spectacle.

I remember Green Goblin stayed dead. I don't recall Gwen Stacy coming back to life. The Arranger was murdered by Kingpin and it was a wrap. I remember Film Freak being murdered by Bane (Knightfall). Albattoir was killed by Azbats (Knightquest). And wasn't Green Arrow dead? Did Barry Allen stay dead?

I mean, it's only a matter of time before Dr. Manhattan raises Rorschach from the dead to get revenge on Ozymandias....hm... which, now that I think about it, would not only give Alan Moore a heart attack, but is a somewhat intriguing idea.

Maybe I'm alone in my assessment, but hopefully it will catch on where readers demand more mature weight (as mature as a comic book can get). I mean, I read Batman and Spider-Man for that reason and I got what I paid for.
