The Doctor is on...

Doctor Who on BBC America.

When, oh when, will the Doctor return? Well Maniacs, we have an official date. However, we would like to say that we’re sad the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his companion (Jenna Coleman) will not appear at Comic Con. That news was released to day as well. Yet, this means all of Whovians not going to San Diego will have a shot at seeing him other places (see press release HERE).

Now back onto the Doctor’s Series 8/ Season 8 return. Check out BBC America’s press release and new teaser below!

Press Release: BBC AMERICA has announced the premiere date for the eighth season of Doctor Who. The feature-length episode, entitled “Deep Breath,” will air Saturday, August 23 at 8:00pm ET. The episode ushers in an exciting new era for the show as Peter Capaldi (The Musketeers, The Thick of It) steps into the role of the Doctor. Fans first got a glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor in November’s 50th Anniversary Special, and again in the final minutes of last year’s Christmas Special, but the upcoming season premiere marks the first full episode for the Twelfth Doctor.

Capaldi will be joined by Jenna Coleman (Death Comes to Pemberley), who returns as companion Clara Oswald, and Samuel Anderson (History Boys, Gavin & Stacey) who joins the cast as Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Clara also works. Previously announced guest stars include Ben Miller (Primeval, Death in Paradise), Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty, Upstairs, Downstairs), and Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons).

Leading up to the premiere, Capaldi and Coleman will appear together in the US for the first time when they arrive in New York on Thursday, August 14 as part of the first ever Doctor Who World Tour. The largest promotional undertaking in the show’s 50-year history, the tour will kick off in Cardiff, Wales before heading to London, Seoul, Sydney, New York, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro.

I can't wait for this next season.  will it be the last doctor?  According to the story this is the last time he can regenerate.

This Doctor is actually the first incarnation of The Doctor's second regeneration cycle so Capaldi will definitely not be the last Doctor.

HomestarRunner 6/28/2014 6:58:09 PM

I hope that made sense. In other words, there can be eleven more Doctors after this one.

I can't see the teaser in the UK. Is it the 'Am I a Good man?' version?

raynardmuldrake 6/29/2014 11:49:44 AM

Yes...the Doctor received a whole new set of regeneration cycles. So we are good to go for another 50 years. I will be at the Chicago Comic con meeting Karen Gillian and Matt Smith on that date..i hope they show it there!

HomestarRunner 6/30/2014 10:32:48 AM

I'm not saying they won't show Deep Breath in Chicago, but I would guess not since neither Matt nor Karen are (significantly) involved in Capaldi's first outing.

It's more likely that, in addition to her Doctor Who/GotG experiences, Karen will talk about her modern take on My Fair Lady (the US TV show Selfie) where she speaks with an American accent. If you haven't already, check out the trailer for Selfie just to hear her voice.
