Despite the problems with going on with Marvel’s Ant-Man, the studio has released who will direct another one of their feature films. Scott Derrickson will helm Doctor Strange. Derrickson is known for Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and The Day the Earth Stood Still remake. His next feature Deliver Us From Evil, features Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn arrives July 2nd. This news broke exclusively on The Hollywood Reporter.

Derrickson certainly has hand in the horror and the macabre the last few years. It looks like Marvel is going to go with a dark tale for the character of Stephen Strange.

Who is Doctor Strange? “Doctor Strange, who made his first appearance in the Marvel Universe more than 50 years ago, in 1963, is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme -- the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. The character was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of Strange Tales No. 110”. - THR

Marvel Entertainment is currently looking for a writer for the screenplay. They have not yet cast the lead for the picture or announced an official release date.

Sound off Maniacs! What do you think of Derrickson director Doctor Strange?

Rumors are circulating that recent Academy Award wining actor, Jared Leto, is Derrickson’s first choice for Doctor Strange. This is just a rumor. Nothing confirmed yet.

I like that it's a 'Dark' director. This is one of those movies that would actually work as a 'Dark' movie. Very interesting.... and Dark.

As for Dr. Strange, since apparently everyone hates Johnny Depp, I'd like to throw out John Hamm from Mad Men as Strange? But i still do love Jim Caviezel as Strange as well.

Jon Hamm would of been great 10 years ago.  He's getting up there in age.  Not sure of the age difference between Hamm and Caviezel, but I think Caviezel is the better fit.

They are very eqivalent in ages. I would go with Pedro Pascall from Game of Thrones. He has the flair for it, and also looks like he would work well with the supernatural.

Hamm is younger than both Depp and Caviezel. and has been my nominee for a while

I don't want Depp's goofy ass in this film.

Hamm has the charisma and range for this not to mention that he has great comedic touch to liven up the mood when it's called for

I agree with rogue.  I heard Pascall mentioned yesterday on another site and it made me think for a bit and he would be a great Dr. Strange.  He's a good actor and he has that cocky swagger down that Stephen Strange had, especially as a neurosurgeon.

Caviezel all the way!

What if he chooses one of his actor? Eric Bana? If Bana takes the role, he would be the 3rd actor to play 2 different Marvel characters. LOL!

Never watched Game of Thrones so I can't pass judgment on Pedro Pascall. Caviezel would definitely be a great casting choice. He's done, in my opinion, a great job on Person of Interest.

ElBaz13 6/4/2014 9:02:18 AM

Hey! Someone else here that watched Person of Interest. I'm one of the few Maniacs here.

Love this show. Last season was very good.

Caviezel would be great. I also think Leo DiCaprio could do the character justice.

 pascall or caviezel
