Do you know about Twitter? Twitter is the latest fad in social networking. Mania has a Twitter account here. I have a Twitter account as well here. Felicia Day has one too. You may know Felicia Day from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or maybe you read my interview with her about her hit web series The Guild.

Currently, she can also be seen in a Sears commercial pimping a red washer. On Friday, she posted something really interesting in her Twitter feed. She mentioned that she appears in episode thirteen of Dollhouse and that she was informed that her episode would not air, that it would appear on the DVD. The season is set to end on episode 12. What we can surmise from her posting is that episode twelve will not only be the end of the season, but also the end of the series. Networks have held over episodes of shows from one season to another before but not usually just one episode. The series hasn’t exactly been a critical darling and it has done poorly in the ratings too. So, there’s not much reason for them to hold onto the series. It’s sad really because the show has been improving each week. Given more time, it may have been able to grow into something great. This is in no way an official announcement of the cancellation of Dollhouse but the writing sure seems to be on the wall, or on the Twitter, as it were.

This week was a little good and a little not so good. It just felt a bit gimmicky. The best reasons for telling a story out of sequences are to create layers of suspense or to build plot twists. The worst reason is to just do it because it’s cool. Unfortunately, this episode of Dollhouse leans toward wanting to be cool. We get some scenes in the beginning and then the episode jumps back in time. It didn’t really need to happen that way at all but it did, just to be cool. Now, everything else in the episode is intriguing including seeing a main character on the show being sent to the attic. The story even leaves an opening for him to return to the show if needed but his days of being a weekly character are over. Us viewers have been seeing Eco grow and evolve every week. Now, even DeWitt gets to see it happen and surprisingly she wants to cultivate that growth rather than box, I mean, send Eco to the attic.

The high point of the episode came when Eco, in doll form, went to Topher and offered her assistance in tracking down a spy that has infiltrated the Dollhouse. She knows that she has the ability to help with the investigation even if she’s not sure why or how she can help. She’s the best of all of the dolls but not even Topher knows why. It seems like any of the dolls could be great if they are properly implanted but somehow Eco is always better. Conceivably, Eco and Sierra could be implanted identically and Sierra would be outmatched. Through Eco’s growth, she is able to integrate some of herself into whatever personality she has been implanted with. That’s just my theory but it makes sense considering she’s the one who’s growing beyond her Dollhouse programming. Sierra and Victor are evolving too but it feels like they are being led to it by their association with Eco.

At any rate, all of our questions about who the spy was in the Dollhouse got answered on this episode. Also, another side of DeWitt gets revealed. As interesting as DeWitt’s story is. it feels like it takes to long to happen. Every moment spent outside the Dollhouse in this episode seems to drag. Sierra does get to go on a little mission that’s a fun romp but not much more. It is necessary to the climax of the story though. Inside the Dollhouse, there’s some great suspense and one lengthy and well choreographed fight scene. It’s hard to believe Eliza Dushku can pull these fight scenes off considering how skinny she is. These dolls do a ton of exercising, but Eco never seems to build any muscle. Mellie got an assignment in this episode that was predictable at first. She was sent back to keep an eye on Ballard but she has a message to deliver to Ballard that causes him to become a doll of sorts himself. Ge has to begin to pretend himself. He has to pretend he doesn’t know the truth about Mellie. The episode, with only a few minor hiccups, continues to progress the story and while it answers a question about a spy in the Dollhouse, it appears this spy isn’t the only one that’s in the Dollhouse.

OK first of all, it's Echo not Eco.

Next, "At any rate, all of our questions about who the spy was in the Dollhouse got answered on this episode." Ummm not so fast dude. Lawrence Dominic may be a spy but he is not THE spy. Think, why on earth would he go to such extreme measures in order for Ballard to find out about the Dollhouse's purpose?  It doesn't add up. He's a spy to protect the Dollhouse not bring it down, and besides, I don't think he has the technical capabilities too.  In essence, yes he is a spy but not the one that has been sending Ballard those messages. I'm guessing it's either Boyd or Saunders. Echo's inspection with Boyd was null-ed because she cannot not trust him. Saunders because the inspection was cut short. This episode deserves more than just a B please.

Oops sorry I didn't read your last line. But the opening sentence of the last paragraph seems to contradict it!

I normally hate the whole "let's start the episode at the end and then we'll show you what happened x number of hours before the end" gimmick, but this episode was pretty darn good despite that flaw.  It deserves at least an A -.

And yes, I agree with you, ignite, it doesn't make any sense for Dominic to be THE spy.  He's just a spy.  Saunders is the obvious choice to be THE spy so that probably rules her out at least I hope it does.  It'd be a little boring and anti-climatic if she was THE spy.  Unfortunately, my guess is that we'll never find out who THE spy really is since FOX has doomed this show from the very beginning by delaying the premiere for more than a year, putting it on Friday nights, and by making Joss and company dumb-down the first 5 episodes of the show so that by the time the series actually got interesting there is only but the most diehard of viewers left watching the show.

Sorry for the rant, but damn I hate FOX.

It has been getting better. I thought Dominic was a spy for the feds because they had potential uses for the dolls as extreme undercover operatives. THE spy is really more of a saboteur because he or she has been messing with doll programming to undermine the whole business. I assumed that Amy Ackerman was sending the messages to Ballard and making Echo resilient to doll programming. She probably tried with Alpha first, but he wasn't stable enough. (And she paid the price) But Echo seems able to handle her emerging memories.

It's too bad about it being cancelled. I assume it's being cancelled. They should just move it to CW or SciFi - a lower network with a little more patience.

What?  The show ain't canceled yet.  What happened was that Fox ordered 13 episodes for Dollhouse, they used one of those 13 up when Whendon had to redo the pilot.  So that means there were only 12 available.

Fox isn't under any obligation to show the episode you are talking about because it would be the 14th episode and they had only picked up 13.

Furthermore, the last episode of the season is what was always was gonna be as the season finale and they are gonna have it on DVD so at least people will get to see it.

I really like the show and really have been seeing it improve from week to week now that initial exposition is done...

My wife actually really likes it too ... and she is - if anything - anti-scifi (and I dont mean that as neutral) ... she keeps commenting, and may have a point, that they did a terrible job advertising and promoting the show.   A naked profile of Eliza Dushku - whoever much I may find it compelling - she said made her sure she would have no interest in the show and she never would have watched it if I hadnt pushed her to.  BUT now that she had watched it she loves it and has recommended it to a bunch of her friends too... I think she has a point... there are elements of the show that would have appealed to the CSI / LaO crowd but they were targetted (and potentially turned off) by the advertising.

This show was doomed from the start. Joss Whedon got lucky with Buffy and since then things have gone down hill!!!!
