The Origin of Victor Revealed

Victor (Enver Gjokaj) gets the spotlight in this episode as his origin is revealed. Turns out his real name’s Anthony Ceccoli, an ex-Army Ranger with acute Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Anthony came to the Dollhouse for help with his PSTD in exchange for five years of his life as a Doll.

Now his contract is up and he is given his original personality back. What’s neat about this episode is that it reveals the procedure of what happens to a Doll who goes back into the real world. A trust fund is set up for them, they have several job prospects (that’s very good in today’s economy), a suite at a posh hotel, a cover story about where they’ve been for the time they were a Doll (in Victor/Anthony’s case, a VA hospital to treat his PSTD, complete with paper trail), and must come in periodically for check-ups at the Dollhouse.

Adelle DeWitt (Olivia Williams) is not taking Victor’s departure well. Having used him for a boy-toy before, she signs him out for one last fling but he can’t have sex with her as he’s fallen in love with another woman. Even though he didn’t mention the other woman by name, it’s obviously Sierra (Dichen Lachman). He immediately asks for her upon finishing a treatment. Adelle does not take it well and hits the bottle. Man, does she hit it. She can pound the booze back like nobody’s business. She can also drool as a phone call later wakes her up from a drunken stupor.

Victor/Anthony has trouble readjusting to the real world. He broods a lot, reminiscent of another one of Joss Whedon’s characters Angel (David Boreanaz). He is then captured by several military commandos – including ex-teammates and ex-Dolls – who wish to recruit him into Project: Mind Whisper, which an endeavor to create the ultimate unit of super-soldiers who think the same thing and share each other’s minds. This is very similar to the Borg of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame. Further, the Rossum Corporation – the Dollhouse’s parent company – is funding Project: Mind Whisper.

Echo (Eliza Dushku) sets out to rescue Anthony with Sierra’s help. Sierra is turned back into Priya, her original personality, as Echo believes it is her love for Anthony that can save him from becoming lost in the hive-mind. In the end, Echo ends up saving Anthony only to be recaptured by a vindictive Adelle.

Adelle is so pissed off that she has security muscle Boyd (Harry Lennix) and sends Echo, Sierra, and even Victor – whom she claimed to love – to the Attic, the Dollhouse equivalent of Arkham Asylum.

This episode was very fast-paced and kept you on the edge of your seat. It’s been a real treat having back-to-back Dollhouse episodes.

its a shame dollhouse is getting so good, and i know its already been canceled.  FAIL.  just like terminator:tscc last season.  fuck you fox.

Yeah, I'm very pissed at Fox for canceling this show, and even more pissed at the masses that would push crap like Survivor and American Idol into being renewed over quality material like Dollhouse.

Some things are just too good to last.

Savor the moment, enjoy the DVDs, and years from now when it's universally hailed as groundbreaking innovative TV, obnoxiously lord the fact the you were one of the few to watch Dollhouse during it's original run over all latecomers!
