What They Say
Music composed by Kazz Toyama, Toshinobu Takimoto, and Hiroshi Imaizumi. The Review!
2 out of 5
Music found in the Doomed Megalopolis Movie.
This CD comes with a 3-page insert. The first two pages are advertisements from ADV for their up coming releases. The third page is a brief summary of the movie, and it’s main characters.
Compositions from Kazz Toyama, who worked on Vampire Wars and the video game Soulblazer are setting the listener up for a moment of true suspense and horror that is only moments away, unfortunately the length of the wait just leaves you bored and disinterested by the time the big twist in the music comes. His works are soulful and touching, but the pure amount of time spent building up to something is a far cry from a good listen. In contrast to Mr. Toyama’s long-winded works of suspense are the softer more heart-wrenching works of Toshinobu Takimoto. Though they are a balance of sorts to the suspensefully boring works from Toyama, they are not in the slightest bit interesting. The music is bland, the feeling non-existent, not a good way to enter into a CD. The light in the dark of this CD seems to be the few tracks that are inventive. The interesting use of synthesized instruments pulls the tracks by composer Hiroshi Imaizumi into a higher caliber than the rest of the CD. Mr. Imaizumi, who you may remember as the composer for Wild Arms the game and the series as well as FLCL shows a spirit in his music that brings the whole CD to a higher level. Unfortunately for the CD, and for the listener, Mr. Imaizumi only worked on three tracks, and they just aren’t enough to make it worth a second listen. Overall, the CD is boring, and uninspired, and had I not been reviewing it, I probably would not have listened past the first track.
I’d have to say I expected more from these composers.
