Doomsday wrecks 'Smallville'. Brolin calls 'Jonah Hex' script "awful." Doomsday smashes 'Smallville'. Marvel anime moves forward. After Doomsday crushed 'Smallville' the Legion of Superheroes appeared. Marvel toons marathon on Jetix. Did we mention Doomsday was on 'Smallville' last night?

DOOMSDAY was on 'SMALLVILLE' last night...for real!

OK. So we all knew that when The CW announced Doomsday was coming to 'Smallville' that they'd never show him as the hulking, thorny monster we saw in the comics. Right?

Well, if you missed last night's episode you missed this:

That right there is the giant, hulking, thorny Doomsday monster that crashed Chloe's wedding, beat Clark down, gutted Jimmy Olsen and made off with the bride. It's not a coast to coast rampage, but it was still pretty sweet!

Icing on the cake was the trailer for the January return of the show, featuring the Legion of Superheroes...

Fans have been complaining about 'Smallville' for a while now, but you can't say The CW isn't trying!

Josh Brolin talks about the "awful" JONAH HEX script

Yesterday the trades announced that Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor had bailed on the 'Jonah Hex' movie over "creative differences". The pair had written a script for the film and were meant to direct it.

Well, MTV Splash Page got a whiff of those creative differences earlier in the week when they interviewed actor Josh Brolin ('No Country for Old Men') , who is loosely attached to the project at the moment.

"When I first read [the script] I thought, 'oh my God it’s awful!'" Brolin told MTV. "And then I had a moment a week later and I thought why is it awful? Maybe the thing to do is to do the most awful movie I can find."

It's not clear if Brolin thinks the script is truly awful, or bad in an edgy and fun kind of way. The fact that he's considering the movie indicates there's something redeeming about the script.

"[I love] the absurdity of it," he said. "It almost allows you to create a new genre. I love going back into the spaghetti western idea and completely turning it around.

"It’s so tongue in cheek. It’s so ridiculous. But once I started putting people in my mind and saying what if I put Malkovich in this role then what does this movie become? Now let’s put this producer and director on it and think about how it plays out. Then it becomes fun. Now I love that movie. If you have a great filmmaker come in then suddenly these gags and characters become interesting."

So, is Josh Brolin trying to rebuild the project from under Neveldine and Taylor? Will he eventually sign on? Or is the 'Jonah Hex' doomed to be exiled to the dusty planes of development hell?

More on Marvel's Anime Initiative

Back in August, Marvel announced plans to create anime versions of their properties for Japanese audiences.

A piece in today's Variety indicates that things may be moving forward. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has created a new business unit devoted to producing and acquiring international properties for worldwide distribution. Tony Ishizuka will manage the new Intl. Product Expansion Group.

Part of the deal is the distribution of four anime series produced by Madhouse, featuring Marvel characters. These series will be broadcast in Japan on the Animax TV network and are to be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

I was terrified when I heard they were bringing Doomsday to Smallville .. but I gotta say, he looked pretty awesome last night ! So far so good. I never really got into watching Smallville till I heard they were bringing in the Doomsday character, then curiosity made me watch and I gotta say I'm not disappointed !  .. yet

SMALLVILLE rocked!!!

That episode of Smallville last night rivals the best two episodes of the series, Rosetta and Justice.  I wish we could have gotten a clearer image of Doomsday, but I think the darkness added to the effect.  Seeing Doomsday fling Clark around like a ragdoll was pretty sweet.

One question,  How did Doomsday know about the Fortress?  Was it just genetic memory or was Brainiac calling out to him?  Well, I guess that's two questions actually.

While waiting for the epic Supernatural ep last night, i caught the end of Smallville.  I was surprised that Doomsday looked so close to the comic. Though note, he -looked- close to the comic. Everything else was off.  I know CW tends to be very superficial,so I souldn't be surprised, but I just can't care because it's not really Doomsday. It's a paper mache Doomsday, a strawman Doomsday, "Headpiece filled with straw". Again, there's no reason for Clark to encounter him so early makes no sense. The Doomsday character is completely different.  While I was commenting how good the character looked, my friend commented that he better because Smallville (unfortunately) has double the budget of Supernatural. Having gotten into the latter show recently, that's a sad note.  Supernatural is such a better show in its fourth season than Smallville is in its eighth.  Also, what the hell was that guy at the end? Was that Brainiac?

I do like that this season has overall been better than the last few years.  I am a little worried though that the show will lose all this momentum with another 4 straight episodes with Lana when the show returns in January.  I think the first half of this season has pretty well confirmed (for any doubters) that she (in particular her relationship with Clark) was the weakest link on the show.

Doomsday, Oliver Queen, Brainiac and even what appeared to be the reemergence of Lex Luthor.  Fanastic episode.  Smallville's final season is making me love Superman again.  I hope others are taking notice and the show gets better ratings.

Why was Chloe smiling at the end?? Was this some sort of hysterical reaction  or was she just happy to see Doomsday?

blackshogun420ninja 11/22/2008 7:35:41 AM

And with all THe crap i've bben talkin bout SMallVille for tha past few months....And then still watchin it every DAmn WEek....Goin back to liking it....THen, gettin ready 2 see Doomsday.....I DAMN MISSED IT!!!! THe HELL????

redhairs99 11/22/2008 11:59:55 AM

I think Chloe smiling at the end was Brainiac taking over.  If you look really close her eyes turned dark grey.  If it wasn't Brainiac, it was some other possession.

BlindJustice 11/22/2008 3:21:07 PM

it was either Brainiac taking over (though I thought Jor-El cleared him out) or seeing Doomsday she put herself in her happy place to cope with the horror.
