Ain't it Cool News is reporting that Doug Jones, who played Abe Sapien in HELLBOY, has won the role of the Silver Surfer in the upcoming FANTASTIC FOUR sequel. The sequel is reportedly titled FANTASTIC FOUR AND THE SILVER SURFER.

Just last week Tim Story, the films director, confirmed that the Silver Surfer would be in the film, but also hinted that he would be mostly CGI. Story said, "The Surfer will be a new CGI design being developed especially for the movie. It's going to be incredible."

SciFi.com posted an article today saying, "SCI FI Wire has confirmed that Hellboy actor Doug Jones (Abe Sapien) will be making a casting announcement at Comic-Con International in San Diego this week concerning his participation in an upcoming, unnamed comic-based film. "There will be a major casting announcement regarding a popular comic-book film at Comic-Con," John Zander, Jones' publicist, said in an interview."

It could be that he is just lending his voice and likeness, or it could be that the Silver Surfer won't be all CGI after all. Time will tell!

This very good news lets hope they write a good story around silver surfer. YEPPY........Galacticus is coming to eat the earth.
PS If they stay to comic book cosmic power of SS will lay waste to the fanastic four.

If this is true then that is pretty good casting. Surfer didn't have to be some big name actor and Doug Jones does have the body type of the Surfer.

Not too sure on the choice but Cinescape sure could've picked a better picture of him...

Jones only did the body of Abe Sapien, David Hyde Pierce did the voice.

The studio should film FF2 and 3 together. FF2 should end with the arrival of Galactus.

The Silver Surfer situation is interesting. I could've swore I read, either here or elsewhere, that somebody else had the rights to Silver Surfer, so I had assumed that there was no way the character would be in an FF movie. But then, it's already damn near impossible to keep track of who owns the rights to what Marvel characters.

I don't really understand why Silver Surfer would be CGI at all (except of course when flying on a surf board.) He's just a silver bald guy. He's human size. Use computers to make him shinier, but from the article at aicn, it says it's going to be motion capture ala Gollum. That seems unnecessary.

I guess they think it will look better with motion capture than a bald dude, with like Silver makeup. We as fans would be the first to point out how corny the guy looks if its not done right. I think its kind of hard to replicate the weird almost metallic silver skin, without some sort of cgi and it not be stupid looking.
