A hot topic that came out of the San Diego Comic Con 2007 event was a possible SILVER SURFER spin-off franchise on the near horizon. It seemed that Fox executives were excited about the possibility of adapting a SS movie outside seperate from the FF franchise. A writer was brought on board by the studio and that was the last we've heard on the subject. While talking to Superhero Hype, Doug Jones has echoed that silence, indicating he hasn't heard from anyone involved in the project. He also indicated he would like to voice the character in the next film.

"I know as much as you do about that; I wish I knew more," he answered. "I suppose they have a writer hired who's been talking about it at Comic-Con, so that's how I heard about him. As far as the timing goes, don't know. As far as whether they're going to come back for me again, I'm contracted for two more, whether they exercise that contract is up to them. I would like to..."

And as far as providing his own voice for the character in future films after having the voice dubbed by Laurence Fishburne? "I would like the opportunity," he responded.

You know, the first 40 minutes of Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer was a bore fest...no different from the Might Mophin' Power Rangers movie. Then something happened...a real movie showed up. My only disappointment is...they could have, and should have shown us Galactus as we know him--nothing wrong with the black cloud V'Ger moments, but we should have seen and heard from Galactus are listened to his motives and philosophy straight from his mouth. In addition, much of the first 40 minutes of the movie should have been cut out.

Respectfully, I have to ask: who is Doug Jones?

"Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer" might not have been the best superhero movie ever made, but I thought it was reasonably good for light family entertainment. Not every comic book adaptation has to be dark, adult, and angsty. Of course, I'd also like to see more of Galactus (rendered faithfully) in a Silver Surfer flick.

Doug Jones played the amphibious Abe Sapien in "Hellboy" (and its animated and upcoming live-action sequels), was the faun in the critically acclaimed "Pan's Labyrinth," and was one of the creepy "gentlemen" in the classic "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer" episode "Hush." So, stop the hating and let's hope this guy is given a chance to really shine as Norrin Rad!

I think Flat was asking who he was and what is his association with the character currently...

I would assume he did the motion capture for the character?

after the crap that was FF2(much better than FF though) I'm not surprised it's just silence from the Silver Surfer spin off. That and the potential strike probably killed it for awhile.

I agree with GeneD. The FF movies are more light in tone. Not to be taken as serious as other comic book movies.
But if they ever decide to do SS they better get rid of that cloud and bring on the real Galactus.

I think they decided to make Galactus kind of nebulous in the movie to keep it open for the spinoff SS film to be able to design what they wanted for themselves. Hopefully they will make it more of a Sci-Fi film than a superhero story.
I thought I remembered reading Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski was working on the screenplay.
I like the FF movies and I hope they do another one. Maybe with the Moleman or Skrulls.

I think it was a no-win situation with Galactus in the FF movie. They kept him hidden and got a bunch of shit. If they showed him as he is in the comics, it would have looked ridiculous on screen and they would have gotten a bunch of shit. If they showed him, but changed his appearance, they would have gotten a bunch of shit. Given all that, I think they did what they had to do to keep the big reveal for the SS movie.

The director mentioned that the reason they didn't show Galactus in full was because he knew they were going to make a Silver Surfer movie in the future. I don't know about you guys but I saw Galactus three times in FF2!! His shadow is cast over Saturn, and you can see him twice in the cloud at the end.

Fishburne is great! This dude may as well have said he wanted to do the voice for Darth Vader...
