Looks like Mr. Iron Man himself may be up for another comic adaptation in the near future. Robert Downey Jr. is in negotiations to star in Cowboys & Aliens, a theatrical adaptation of the Fred Van Lente graphic novel for DreamWorks & Universal Pictures. The latest script was turned in by Children of Men & Iron Man scribes Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. Imagine Entertainment mainstays Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing along with Steven Spielberg, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Platinum Studios chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg also will produce.

Plot Concept:
The story centers on an Old West battle between the Apache and Western settlers, including a former Union Army gunslinger named Zeke Jackson (Downey), that is interrupted by a spaceship crashing into the prairie near Silver City, Ariz. The story draws a parallel between the American imperialist drive to conquer the "savage" Indians with its advanced technology and the aliens' assault on Earthlings, who must join together to survive the invaders' attack.

I got the Graphic novel in the dollar bin. It was a great read. I hope to see this soon.

I am so happy for Downey for his success. I hope he does not fuk it up.

I've never heard of this novel before, but it sounds like a lot of fun.Hope to see it soon, and I'm also happy that R.Downey Jr is having success it's overdue......yea,hope he doesn't mess it up!

Ditto the above comments. Never read it but sounds interesting enough. I'd be there in a heartbeat for something like this.

As a matter of fact there is something like this coming out later this year I think. It's called Outlander. Jim Caviezael and Ron Pearlman star. Alien ship lands in Scandinavia in Vikings time. One soldier, one monster emerge. Soldier teams up with the Vikings to take down the monster destroying everything in its path. Similar IMO.

RDJ I think has turned his life around. Taking up martial arts and drinking that green goo he drinks are pretty good signs of someone taking care of themselves mentally and physically.

He should also be grateful to Favreau and Marvel for taking a chance on him with a big tent pole film like IM. Most studios steered clear of him with such projects because of his past. It was a gamble and it paid off for everyone.

I'd rather see Sherlock Holmes. I can't picture this doing well in theaters.

This sounds like it could be decent, but he needs to be working on IM2.

If done right, it could be his
"INDEPENDENCE DAY".

Nice. Sounds like it could be really good. Gotta try and find me the comic.

WTF Almost? It’s already been established that Sherlock Holmes would star Kimbo Slice son! And Don Cheadle.

This week’s Entertainment Weekly had Downey Jr up for a couple of roles, including Sherlock Holmes, but it didn’t mention this Cowboy & Aliens. I wonder if the cowboy in this movie is really a soul eating mummy playing dress up,hmmmmmmmmm?

This idea has been floating around the studios for years and I'm glad its finally getting done. All it needs is a great director with RDJ great acting chops and this could become the next Predator.
