Horror novelist Dean Koontz, honored filmmaker Martin Scorsese, rising star Marcus Nispel and television producer Tony Krantz are joining forces to create a weekly FRANKENSTEIN TV series. The USA Network has given the go-ahead for a two-hour pilot plus four episodes, to be written by Koontz and directed by THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake helmer Nispel. Scorsese and Krantz will executive produce the series (along with Koontz.)

This incarnation of FRANKENSTEIN is set in the modern day, specifically Seattle, and acts as a futuristic sequel to what happened in Mary Shelley's classic novel. More than a century after the events chronicled in Shelley's book, renegade scientist Victor Frankenstein and his monster are still alive thanks to the doctor's experiments in genetics. The story of Frankenstein will be intertwined with the criminal investigation of two Seattle homicide cops who, while investigating a case, stumble across the existance of the two beings. According to today's report in Variety, the Frankenstein monster will team up with the police officers to stand against Victor Frankenstein and a "small army of genetic freaks."

The series will likely air this fall on the cable network, with production supposedly taking place in April.
