According to Daizenshuu EX and confirmed by FUNimation on their blog, Navarre announced in their conference call that the company has acquired the North American rights to the Dragon Ball Kai series. This series isn't exactly a new series but rather the HD remaster of the original Dragon Ball Z series, taking it from 291 episodes to a roughly planned 100 episodes. The original source material has been extensively remastered and reworked for a 16:9 high definition presentation and the general approach has been to have it flow better and mirror the original manga better. The entire series has also been dubbed over again in Japan with the majority of the original cast back for it. FUNimation as of this time does not have any firm information on their site or Twitter feed about what to expect for a release beyond "the latter part of the upcoming fiscal year"

Why can't they make a new series?  They could fight gods or something mythical to challenge them.
