Some more details have hit the wires for the upcoming live-action adaptation of DRAGON BALL Z, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The trade announced that James Marsters will be portraying the villainous Piccolo facing off against the hero Goku, played by Justin Chatwin. Also revealed is a new release date of August 15, 2008 for director James Wong. Chatwin has begun training under the supervision of stunt performance company 87Eleven, the same team which oversaw the stunts for 300, The Matrix, Bourne Supremacy and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) is the acting producer on the project which begins filming later this year.

Plot Concept: The story follows an adult humanoid alien named Goku, who discovers that he was sent to Earth to blend in and destroy our population but instead elects to protect it from an oncoming alien onslaught bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

DRAGON BALL Z hits theaters August 15, 2008.

Of course there is...the Ancient dragon that comes forth from the Dragon balls after they are collected granting a wish to those worthy of gathering them.

Sheesh.

Wow James Marsters. I guess this cast is becoming more American than I thought. I would have thought this would be more Japanese. And they are starting Piccolo off as a villian again. I thought they might shortcut to DBZ where he was mostly an ally. I really hope they cut the kiddie crap down to a min for this one.

I can see them starting with Piccolo evil because it makes it easier to relate to when the series goes ballistic and people are weary of Piccolo, namely Bolma, Krillon, and Yamcha etc...

I saw a few images of Justin that reveal he does have that boyish charm that Goku has in his goofy moments. I still have to see him with the Saiyan hair to get the full effect.

Well, I like James Wong's movies and I think Stephen Chow makes some great ones also. Justin Chatwin was good in The Invisible and War of the Worlds, but I am just not a fan of the cartoon. I have tried watching it, but I feel like my eyes are melting. I will give the movie a chance and will reserve judgement until i see a trailer.

And THIS my friends is why it should've been done in CGI! Shit, the tards behind Beowulf could've made their version liveaction.

I bet my LIFE and that of my future offspring that this movie will end up like DOA...DOA.

Oooh, one of my favorite actors (Marsters) playing my favorite DBZ character. Yay!

I don't care for this cartoon as I hate most anime. This live action American film is probably the only way I would give this a chance. And with the folks they got to handle the fighting I'm thinking it should at least be entertaining, considering their previous work.

Stephen Chow - Fountain of knowledge when it comes to this type of film. "KUNG FU HUSTLE"...nuff said.

James Marsters as Piccolo - I can see it. Good job.

Justin Chatwin as Goku - Don't know much about him. The face is "spot on" - Goku made flesh! The problem is that he is skinny. He's gonna need to put on a lot of muscle to play this part.

Get a good script and special effects house and I am there! This could be huge.

Anyone else think Marsters didnt have a screen test and the casting people just figured his hair was a good fit.

Skyn3t-DOA was a great movie, I am more familiar with the Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan version but the original was good as well.

I honestly cannot wait to see how this pans out.
