What is the difference between 3D and RealD 3D? It was on the top of the movie site. Is a one a generic 3D projector and the other a branded one?

thezillaman 7/4/2012 2:55:08 AM

@wrrlykam, the difference is, a real 3D theater is permanently set-up theater geared towards 3D screenings. this is because it uses a different projecdtion screen and digital projector compared to the one 2D digital cinema theaters use. for a Dolby Digital theater, since it can use the same projection screen and digital projector utilized in 2D digital cinema theaters, in real D 3D, the movie theater requires expensive invesment on digital cinema projectors compatible with the real d 3D system. for one movie theater the system uses opposing circular polarized lenses and two projectors. Meanwhile, in Dolby Digital 3D, digital cinema projectors used in 2D movies can actually be used. the projector only requires a simple accessory called a rotating filter assembly to be inserted in between its lamp and picture element toallow 3D projection.also real 3D requires a special kind of silver screen to be used in the movie theater because of the polarization needs of the projected stereoscopic image. while both real D 3D and dolby digital 3D use the circular polarization system in their projection technologies, the dolby digital 3D glasses are more expensive and fragile compared to thouse used in real 3D. this type of 3D glasses use special multi- coated lens, wich makes them more expensive to produce. the said glasses are not the disposable type and strict control over the distribution and collection of the glasses are very much apperent in movie theaters. last, Imax is primarlily based on film technology, while real 3D and dolby digital 3D are bothdigital 3D formats.their difference are more technical than visual in nature. some people can tell the differences some can't..it comes down to how much are you willing to pay at the theater for quality and not that much of a difference.

sorry i misspelled some words. kinda sleepy, good night and happy 4th of July to all ...

Thanks heads up on that  thezillaman.

What is the bet that my local fleapit has the cheaper option. Given the option of choicing to see a 3D film I tend to plum for the bigger mulitplexes as my local has difficulty getting a 2D movie focus let alone handle a 3D movie. They even managed to show the second half of Avatar with the frame split in two halves, with the top on the bottom and the bottom on the top for 5 minutes before the projectionist notice. 2012 was shown for 30 minutes slightly out of focus, which was actually an improvement..

I'd be ready to hurt someone if I got that kind of service wrrlykam. One of the great things of living in or near NYC most of my life is the abundance of theaters, so it wouldn't be difficult to drop one for another

They closed down the cinema about 10 years ago and we had/have a 30-40 mile round trip to the 'local' multiplex. A local business man paid to have the town cinema open up again 18 months ago.

It is the only remain cinema in the district and it dates back to 1911. My great uncle ran one of the other 5 cinemas, but they have all closed and been demolished.

While it is not a perfect set up it is still better than none (and nearly half the price of the multiplex). But they could do a bit better with setting things up before rolling the projectors i.e. looking through the window to check things are OK when it starts. They are quick to fix the little glitches when they hear the cat-calls.

@wrrlykam, you welcome brother,, sounds like they are trying and i hope that they get up to date on the new digital frontier .like you said though,( still better than none, and at nearly half the price of the multiplex,) give it some time , if they build it they will come ,,lol.. and i know about going to real bad theaters . i grew up in MEXICO, let me tell you, the sound was just horrible just one front speaker and the thing was blown so the sound would distort through out the entire movie,. the seats made out of hard compressed wood that made your ass hurt in the first 30 min. having to switch side cheek to side cheek. still we would get cool american movies and gotta say the fisrst time i watched ALIENS and return of thr living dead double feature was in that shit hole but it was the only thing we had,, oh and the concession stand the best Tortas in the world, it was crazy and different none the less i got to watch all the cool american movies and loved it.. now i live in the USA, and the movie theater experience is great,
