Redford for Captain America 2?

Senior Shield Agent

By Robert T. Trate     March 22, 2013

It appears if there may be a new head of S.H.I.E.L.D. or senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Reports are surfacing that Robert Redford, yes that Robert Redford, is in talks to join the cast. Redford is not the usual actor for this type of picture and currently has only made indie flicks or low budgets films. It will be interesting to see if they lock Redford down for other Marvel projects. Could we see Redford in Thor: The Dark World or Guardians of the Galaxy as well? Only time and a multi-picture contract will tell.

The Plot: "Winter Soldier" is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, wherein Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is brainwashed and used against his ally Captain America. Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will appear as Falcon, and Samuel L. Jackson will likely once again reprise his role as Nick Fury, as the film will tie into both this summer's The Avengers and its planned sequel.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released in the U.S. on April 4, 2014.

that would be a great news for the movie, RR is a class act actor and would be very interesting to have him join the Marvel U.

That would be very cool.

Wow. WOW! W-O-W! That would be beyond cool! I wonder why he is considering this? Is it the script? Is it the money? Is he friends with one of the producers and did it for his buddy? That's why Sally Field played Aunt May in ASM.

On a slightly different note, when I was a kid RR was my choice to play Cap. It quickly change to "a younger version of RR" because he was already getting too old for the part.

The money monkeyfoot? The guy has been an actor and rich since the 70's...this guy is just a legend on it's own and I think it would be nice he joins the franchise.

Maybe he wants just to have one last big movie under his belt.

actually redford did an episode of the twilight zone  so that would put him late 1950s  or early 1960s,he played death  trying to get an old lady to let him in  ,classic episode

Jedi, I'm just trying to speculate on why he would be doing this type of movie. I don't think he has done anything you would consider a popcorn movie since the film Sneakers. Whether he directs or just acts in it they are always very serious. Plenty of "serious" actors do fun, escapist fare as well but its been 20 years since he did that. Just wonder why.

well that's interesting, hope it goes through for R.R and Marvel.

Early Redford would be fine.  Modern Redford's hair scares me.  Maybe his hair is the main villian.

Redford will be 77 in August.  I don't think he's hurting for money.  Maybe he wants to make a movie the grandkids can see.
