Runaways Movie Shelved

It's a Post Avengers World

Remember the Runaways movie that was in works? Me neither. Apparently it was as far along as a script by Iron Man 3’s co-writer Drew Pearce. However, since this is now a post-Avengers world, the project has been put on the shelf.

The Hollywood Reporter had the story (read it here). "We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers," explained Drew Pearce. "Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's there -- maybe it'll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I'm really proud of it and I think it'll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, his master plan is."

A movie based on Brian K. Vaughan's 2003 comic sounds like a great idea. Maybe it will be a part of Marvel’s Phase Three plan. Personally, I would rather see a series on FX or a HBO based on the comics. It will be interesting to see what Disney and Marvel do with the project.

Yeah I remember this being in the works from years back and just like the story says AVENGERS happened.

Hopefully this'll get made. Everything can't or shouldn't revolve around the Avengers forever. Although I do like how right now each phase culminates with an Avengers finale

I wouldn't mind seeing it...hell, if Marvel is wiling to take a chance on Guardians of the Galaxy, surely they can make room for this.

It's a shame that this movie is no longer being given serious consideration.  Runaways would be an excellent movie franchise to compete with the various awful YA series being cranked out by the other movie studios.  There is plenty of room in the marketplace for Runaways and the various Avengers movies.  This decision was short-sighted on Marvel/Disney's part.  Just because The Avengers was a huge success is no reason not to diversify.

I think it's the recent failure of high profile YA properties that scared off Marvel/Disney from doing The Runaways. The GotG movie really came out of left field so I really would like see them take a chance on a Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel movie.

I don't understand why.  Runaways would tap an entirely different audience, and the idea behind it is fresh.  No reason that the comic universe can't be expanded...dumb move on Marvel.

I think Runaways would work better as a TV series Vs a movie. Not a big loss I think at this point.

I could definitely see Runaways as a TV show, jedibanner.  They could have it on ABC, put it in the more family friendly 8:00 timeslot, and move Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the 9:00 slot...seems like the 9:00 slot was where Whedon did his best stuff.

Gee , now I thought it was the Runaways with Dakota Fanny
