Escape From Planet Of The Apes:
Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter reprise their roles from the original Planet of the Apes in this third chapter of the Apes saga. Two intelligent simians from the future, Cornelius (McDowall) and Zira (Hunter) travel to present-day earth. I always found the ending of Escape From Planet Of The Apes to be really disturbing. I watched all of them a couple of years ago when they released the set on VHS. Although they seemed to go downhill with each one they put out, overall I still really liked the series.

Not my favorite Franchise, but still fun to watch, but this is some cinema history that I am glad is behind us.

I prefer the original 'Planet' over that horrible Tim Burton "re-imagining". I'm not sure what Burton or the studio was even thinking, or if they were, because that is one of the worst "remakes" ever done. Heston's version is superior in almost every way, and Walberg, though a good character actor, seemed out of his element in Burton's film.

Yeah, Tim Burton is an idiot. I was so disappointed with the re-make and Tim Burton has failed on so many levels with his take on classic movies. It really was one of the WORST remakes ever and will never have a sequel.

The classic PoTA series was good, but they did get goofier with each sequel (due to diminishing budgets). However, the did have the balls to do some very dramatic endings to the movies. You could definitely say that it was one of the first "franchises" of it's kind.

I'm not too keen on this "ape-head" DVD case (or the price). I would have rather had the DVDs in a case that resembled Taylor's Icarus ship...not the goofy-looking ape.

To answer the 1st post. There is a really simple reason why each film went downhill. It's really funny but, for each film sequel that came out the budget actually got smaller and smaller (a complete 180 reverse trend from today's moviemaking).

The reason was that the studio didn't want to plunk down extra coin on what they considered to be a money-making franchise. They figured, if we film it, they will come... and they were basically right.

2/8/1968 Planet of the Apes, The - $33,395,426 (Budget 5-8,000,000)
5/26/1970 Beneath the Planet of the Apes - $17,489,009 (Budget approx 3,000,000)
1/1/1971 Escape from the Planet of the Apes - $12,300,000 (Budget $2,500,000)
1/1/1972 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - $9,700,000 - (Budget $1,700,000)
1/1/1973 Battle for the Planet of the Apes - $8,800,000 - (Budget $1,800,000)

This info above is from the-numbers.com I estimated the budgets on the first two films from what I remember hearing years ago.

The first # is the box office total and the 2nd is the budget for each film. Very profitable franchise for them.
