By: BRIAN THOMAS
Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Troma has joined the ranks of video labels offering iPod video downloads on Troma.com. So far, their slate of programming includes lessons from Lloyd Kaufman's film school in a box MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE and edited, serialized version of Trey Parker & Matt Stone's incredible CANNIBAL! THE MOVIE. Plus, they've got an mp3 of the theme song from POULTRYGEIST by Calamari Safari.

Prize Closet: As a special treat, we got director Harold Ramis to autograph a copy of THE ICE HARVEST for you, courtesy of Universal. You know the rules. You can win if you send one email containing your name and address to psycho@psychotronic.info with "ICE ICE BABY" in the subject line. And oh yeah, you have to guess my favorite John Cusack movie.

Each week I look over these lists to see what obscure and fun genre titles are coming to DVD...and each week I ask the question, "Why all these, when Monster Squad still hasnt' been released!?!?"

Does anyone know who owns the rights to Monster Squad these days...and what the hell the hold up is?

Considering the furor over the current Geraldine McEwan series (produced by Grenada/WGBH), it would probably be useful to note that the Miss Marple series listed above is the version starring Joan Hickson.

What! No Directors cut of Debbie Does Dallas! That Sucks!

ultrazilla-

It's a legal issue. If you google for 'Fred Dekker interview' you should find a neat interview with him - he directed both "Night of the Creeps" and "Monster Squad". He explains that it's a legal issue with all the recent production company buyouts. They're both in kind of a 'DVD limbo' at the moment.

I'm a huge fan of both these movies, so I keep my fingers crossed that someday soon they'll both be released on DVD!

Ah! Thanks for the heads up info Wayne! I wondered what was going on. They really missed a huge opportunity by not releasing it right before Van Helsing came out...I thought for sure we'd see it at that time. I guess this explains it.

Hopefully someday, Monster Squad was one of my favorite films while growing up! (and still is!)

James Gunn's upcoming SLITHER bears many similarities to NIGHT OF THE CREEPS...
