Passing on this release.  I'll rent it sometime on Redbox whenever it's released there, but I'll wait for the extended cut later in the year.  No double-dipping for me this go round.

Just finished the Hobbit, and many things weren't answered in that book, but the Similarion (sp too lazy to crosscheck) and other tales make up the added filler to the movie trilogy.

Have they actually announced an Expanded Edition? Since they had to add content to beef up the running time here, while the Ring movies had to cut things out, I wouldn't think an expanded edition is a given unless they've said aso.
The Walmart I work at (don't judge me too harshly) has as its unique version a Bluray, Dvd, Ulatraviolet package with a 64-page book. I myself prefer physical gimmes to extra features on the disk. It's being sold well below cost right now for $22.96.

If you buy it at Target you get a Lego Bilbo!

doublec, prtty sure the extended cut was announced on the original press release for this Blu-ray release.  I skimmed the original article but didn't see it and then asked about the special edition in the comments. Someone else replied and said it was in the article.  I went back and saw that I had just skimmed over it.

So yes, they have officially announced the extended cut.
