For the third time in a row, a perfect collection

This week is a blessing for you Maniacs as there is a great assortment of sci-fi titles to add to your library. The two biggest being: The Twilight Zone Season 3 and the Alien Anthology.
Once again, IMAGE Entertainment has delivered the awesomeness that is The Twilight Zone to Blu-ray. Rod Serling’s classic television series is brought to life like no other collection before in picture quality, commentaries and special features. I have been literally blown away by the lengths in which IMAGE Entertainment has gone to for this series. Let me remind you that this is the third time they have done this since September of 2010 (see my review of season 1 and 2). Hearing Bill Mumy do commentary for “It's a Good Life” is a real treat. To see the incredible details of Murray Matheson’s costume in “Five Characters in Search of an Exit” makes you appreciate Blu-ray all the more. By this point, it should comes as a no brainier; buy The Twilight Zone on Blu-ray. I have no doubt that IMAGE Entertainment will deliver the final two seasons before the year is over.
The Alien Anthology with the egg packaging is also finally arriving this week. Many of you have already purchased the Blu-ray edition last fall. If you were holding out, by all means pick up the egg edition that debuted at San Diego Comic Con. The Blu-ray’s, themselves, have many of the same features from the 2003 DVD release. There are two new Blu-rays packed full of new material that make the box set picking up. Actually, the picture quality should be your main reason but these two discs help. The treat for this columnist was watching David Fincher’s cut of Alien 3 for the first time. With almost 28 additional minutes it did change the pace of the film. Clearly it was a suspense film that Fincher was going for in the vein of the original. The only thing I thought that really needed to be cut were the amount of speeches Charles S. Dutton delivers. It was really one too many. Otherwise, you love seeing the character development of the other prisoners; as well as seeing what the Alien is born out of instead of a dog.
