Dwayne Johnson Circles G.I. Joe 2

Johnson could become Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.

Dwayne Johnson's action-savvy involvement helped drive Fast Five to becoming the top earner in its franchise this summer. Paramount Pictures and Marvel are likely hoping he could do the same for their upcoming sequel, G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.

Both Variety and the online trade, Deadline New York, reports that Johnson is circling the role of "Roadblock" for the fast-tracking sequel. Fleming at Deadline also suggest that Channing Tatum is returning to the role of "Duke" though we heard that same piece of news earlier this year when Step Up director Jon M. Chu was defending his hiring as the helmer for the sequel. As you'll see in the link, the incoming director also responded to Rachel Nichols' tweets that only Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were returning for the sequel.

The studio would not comment on Johnson's potential casting at the current time.

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes is set to be released August 10, 2012.

Thanks to MrGarabaldi and madmanic999   for the submission.

So I really like Dwayne as Road Block! I think he is perfect for that role! I hope that cobra commander and destro are back! They are the whole reason for the damn move! I would hate to not have Scarlett, I mean really can we have a g.i. joe 2 without scarlett? No! So let's get on the ball and get this cast together! Also you gotta bring back Dennis Quad to be the leader! I am just hoping to see more of the G.I. joe vehicles I remember from when I was a kid.

I am just hoping they make a G.I. Joe movie that I feel comfortable calling G.I. Joe.

Well, if Dwayne joins the movie, at least 1 character from the cartoon will be close to be accurate in real life...He would be the only good reason to see this suckfest called Tatum.

I enjoyed GI Joe but then again I never really really followed the toons or comics so I'm not aware of how much it may have been violated. Still I'll admit there's plenty of room for improvement. And having The Rock in the sequel would be an improvement right off the bat.

Also, I wasn't aware the Marvel had anything at all to do with this production or is that a typo meant to say Hasbro

Lastly, I read they were ditching filming it in 3D even though those were the initial plans, too bad

Both Marvel and Hasbro have investment in this one one way or the other, Wisebro. It's why G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes continues to be in the Comics News section...And true, early reports suggest they're not going with 3D on the sequel though I bet it changes by the start of production. If you're a studio executive, you have to look at the $$$ signs. 3D seems the way to go for that one as theater chains rapidly convert their auditoriums.

Since when is Marvel Studios part of Gi Joe? Is this new?

Rise of Cobra was a horrible piece of crap. Mind you, I grew up with the initial Marvel Joe series written by the one and only Larry Hama. The only thing close to Hama in this movie was his cameo!

I sure hope #2 takes a different turn and yes it would be fun to have Dwayne as Roadblock. I totally missed having this cool character (who was also Duke's close buddy) in the comics.

Just get rid of the Wayan. ugh!

loved the !st movie hope #2 ls just as cool

Alright, I'll take off the "Studio" part but for pete's sake people, please remember that G.I. Joe was a comic book. And it will continue to be placed in the Comic section. Marvel does have an interest here. If you were bitching the last four years about "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" being placed in the Comic section, then feel free to continue bitching...

Sensitive tonight Jarrod???

puckzx6 6/6/2011 7:04:14 PM

It's just that they don't have anything to do with GI Joe anymore. IDW print the comic now.
