We've seen plenty of rumors over the past few years that there would be more adventures set around the best selling video game series Knights of the Old Republic. Now, it looks to be confirmed as upcoming MMO by EA and Bioware. EA's John Riccitiello told  Portfolio.com that they have "two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development." The first one was the already announced Warhammer Online while he tried being vague about the other.

"And the one people are dying for us to talk about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."

Well, the interviewer pressed the question on whether John was talking KOTOR because we've had too many years of vague rumors surrounding a new title and he answered the question with "Yes.".

When more information comes along about the new KOTOR MMO, we'll pass it here.

When I hear the words "bioware" "KOTOR" and "MMO" in the same sentence, I get a little happy feeling deep down inside. When that sentence also includes "EA"... I realize its going to suck. And not just suck... it will be just good enough to make us say, "Well crap, if only EA hadn't been involved." Plus, it'll be rushed into print before its anywhere near ready.

Okay, Biowar good, KOTOR Great, but MMO? I'm not so sure. I was addicted to the first two KOTORs and like everyone else I have been patiently waiting for the next installment after such a big open ending, but I'm not sure that an MMO is the right way to go. The story till now has led us to think a couple of jedi have (spoiler?) runoff to the unknown regions to battle the true sith, now there will be hundreds in the game and the original continuing storyline will disappear. I hope I'm not being a stick in the mud. And yes, not much good comes from EA since Ultima IX.

Well the Jedi Civil War that ended with the destruction of the Star Forge (the end of KoTOR I) left the Sith routed and the Jedi with maybe a hundred members left. The fallout will logically include many would-be Sith Lords and new Padawans of the remaining Jedi. At the very least, we can expect a consistent time frame and coherent universe. This will no doubt sign the final death knell for SOE's Star Wars Galaxies, which has been run so poorly that it never settled on a consistent era, ostensibly being post-Episode 4 yet with multitudes of Jedi (Light and Dark) running around flaunting their powers openly, an Empire whose forces seem so sparse it's largely emasculated, and many elements of KoTOR, including HK-47 thrown in for no logical reason. The minute the KoTOR MMO goes live, virtually the few remaining holdouts still playing Galaxies will jump ship to KoTOR Online. Hopefully this will open the way for a TRUE Post-Episode 4 MMO, with Jedi not necessarily unheard of, but hunted to the point that only the severely dedicated willing to play in the shadows would dare take up the mantle, and the forces of the Empire properly oppressive and human-centric (something Galaxies never required, leading to Imperial Colonel WOOKIEES of all things...)

I played KOTOR and I played Galaxies. I liked them both, but I'll never pay to play on-line again. They screwed me for 2 months, charging me even after I cancalled three times and finally I got smart and just told my credit card company to stop paying them, but Lucas arts never paid me back. Never again. I play MMO's like Guild Wars that rock and are free. And I agree they will destroy this story arc, but the game might still be fun. I'll just never know, because they'll charge for it.

The first two KoTOR were great though both have there flaws, some minor some not but over all easy to over look because of the feeling of being in the star wars galaxey it gave you...But I agree with Nerdbot here..an MMO it should not be. They are hit and miss at the very best. I can only hope that there will be a single player option so that those of us who dont want to pay or those of us who don't want what has been a great ongoing story to be ruined. oh yeah and EA blows big ass monkey chunks.

I was a little late getting to KOTOR, but I wasn't overly impressed. After all the hype, the crappy framerate and lame voice overs were a turn off. That and I cannot abide turn based combat. I don't care for MMO's either. Bioware should focus on Mass Effect's downloadable content and it's sequels, or a KOTOR game that focuses on single player, and real time combat. If you could combine Force Unleashed with Mass Effect, I'd be down for that.

wait, a MMO?! what the hell!! my two fav games and there not gonna put a single player mission? the first one was dope but the second was alright but didnt like the end , sorta like giving the middle finger to us fans. hopefully revan and the exile are in this game in one form or another. damn u EA!!!

As good as Bioware is, a kotor mmo would not be the same game. Kotor was designed to be a single player game with a specific story about a few people having a pivotal role in the Star Wars universe. In a mmo everyone will be running around with major importance? This will end up feeling like all other mmo’s; repetitive, lacking in npc’s that matter, and most important of all is the empty story line. Kotor had a great story interesting npc’s and I don’t think that even Bioware can keep the feel of kotor when translating it to a mmo. People who like kotor like the story line and will just want to play out the missions. Now they will be harassed every few seconds by some jerk wad that wants to duel them. Cant Lucas Arts be happy with just making a great game and not making another mmo so they can squeeze a few more bucks out of people.
