EA has announced the development of a G.I. Joe title, which will be hitting Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PS2, PSP, and Nintendo DS at about the same time that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters. While the game isn't going to be based soley on the events that transpire in the movie, the developer says the title will "re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line.".

The film centers on 5 major characters from the toy line while the game will center on 12 playable characters. It will feature single screen co-op for two players and we'll likely be getting our first glimpse of the action at the New York City Toy Fair on February 15, 2009. Like the upcoming tie-in game for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the new title falls under EA's parternship with toy manufacturer Hasbro, a producer on both movies.
