Early CASINO Reviews

The Hollywood Reporter has released its review of CASINO ROYALE and here are a few highlights:

"Casino Royale, James Bond is back. Back to his roots as Ian Fleming's driven, bare-knuckled, rough-around-the-edges sociopathic killer in Her Majesty's Secret Service. The movie is so retro it begins with a black-and-white sequence in which Bond brutally earns his 00 status with two textbook-perfect killings."

"The film is far too long, with a protracted third act pushing running time to 144 minutes. Yet the new Bond should help newcomers and older viewers rediscover what made Sean Connery's early Bond movies the best of the series. Boxoffice looks promising here and overseas."

"The heroine is Vesper Lynd (French actress Eva Green), a female counterpart to Bond -- cool, calculating, untrusting but drawn to sexual adventure if it comes packaged to suit her whim. Their exchanges contain none of the usual tired double entendres but rather sharp dialogue as the two suss each other out."

The film hits theaters this Friday.

Funny, when you think about the question a journalist ask to Ian Fleming, For you who is the best choice to cast for 007, he s answer was, David Niven ! We are so far away from the wish or the creator, and what they do to pierce brosnam was not very fair, there is a lot of expectation on this 21th episode, Ineed to see, i just hope it will be not like timothy dalton who ruined the franchise

I didn't think Dalton killed the franchise. Dalton was fine and the movies were okay, I just thought that the movies got too far away from being a "James Bond" movie - in fact, what concerns me is, at that time they were going for more gritty and realistic with Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, which is apparently what Casino Royale is supposed to be. I have big hopes for Craig as Bond, I just hope that they don't get too far away from the fun of Bond movies. Invisible car is waaaay too fanciful for Bond, however I also don't want to see swing so far the other way that you don't recognize the style of the earlier movies.

What the hell is a 21th? 21st? That makes more sense…
Who cares who plays Bond as long as is it isn't Moore, and the producers don't give us crap like ”Die Another Day” or any of the Moore–era crap.

Die Another Day was AAAAAWWWWWFFFFUUUULLLLLL, seriously, Casino Royale will be the Batman Begins of Bond, but regardless, ANYTHING would be better than the last two GODAWFUL Brosnan Bonds

spader.. dont DISRESPECT the HAIR!
Roger Moore's Hair was PERFECT... PERFECT I TELL YOU! ....PERFECT!
"Moon-era crap" my ass... Moonraker was the first Bond flick I saw in theaters so naturally it holds a special place in my heart... I freakin loved that movie (and then I saw the rest of them) sure its goofy... but damn...JAMES BOND IN SPACE...with Mrs GOODHEAD!!!!
I love all the Brosnan Bond flicks, but Tommorow Never Dies is the weakest of the lot only because THEY BRUTALLY MURDERED TERRI HATCHER!!! (how retarded is THAT???) I have always loved Johnathan Price but I think that his portrayal of a rich tycoon was... a little over the top... EVEN for BOND.
I have high hopes for this flick....

the only other movie I can think of that began with a black and white intro was Van Helsing.... I LOVED the black and white opening of Van helsing... unfortunatly everything that spewed forth after that sucked.

Don't see this as much of a review, but what I did read elswhere said it was very good, although it did lose momentum at times, presumeably when it turns to his relationship with Viper. I too grew up with Moore, and he will always be Bond to me. That said I did enjoy all the other films, obviously some more than others. I felt Brosnan was an excellent Bond, but a couple of the movies were pretty week. Connery started it and he WAS cool. Even Lazenby was decent, but that probably goes along with On Her Majesty's Secret Service being one of the all-time great Bond movies. Dalton is a good actor, but for me he was miscast as Bond. I have high hopes for CR and for Craig, he was awesome in Layer Cake(if you haven't seen it, do...it changed my mind about Craig as Bond). Hopefully he can take the character and make it his own for this era.

I thought Timothy Dalton was an excellent Bond. As someone else mentioned, his movies just got too far away from what people expected a Bond film to be. If he had decided to stick around with the franchise for Goldeneye, we would have seen an excellent Bond. I also thought Brosnan had the potential to be great in the role. Unfortunately, every entry after Goldeneye was rather awful, although I somewhat enjoyed Die Another Day for some reason. I think if Brosnan or Dalton were Bond back in the Cold War and had the material Connery had to work with, they would have turned in outstanding performances. Likewise, if you put Connery into the movies those two had, save Goldeney, we'd all have a general "myeh" reaction to him.

Can't see this on Friday because I couldn't get a sitter, but I'm definitely going to see this one and form my own opinion!

Connery was MY Bond.
Nobody does it better. Makes me feel sad for the rest. Nobody does it quite as good as Sean. Baby you're the best!
Looking forward to this one though.
