Early Plot Details Leaked for I AM LEGEND Prequel?

Is it legit or a load of bunk?

The following plot rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. In fact, Merrick from AICN warns as much with their latest plot leaks passed so we're just adding that warning above his. It seems a bit early to have a leak of plot information for a project so early into its development stages and this is one of their "untested" sources. The plot details leaked also doesn't mesh with the final cut that we got out of Warner Bros.' I Am Legend. As most of you Maniacs know, one version of "Legend" had the Robert Neville character living while the other had him dying at the end.

When a follow-up was confirmed from director Francis Lawrence, leading star Will Smith and Warner Bros., we were told it would likely be a prequel leading up to the events happening within the first film.

According to AICN's untested source,

"Let's start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner's didn't much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it's a fucking sequel!"

As said above, the last line doesn't mesh with what we got out of the final cut for I Am Legend. It could indeed happen though. Hollywood does their best at trying to find a way to continue a storyline that looks seemingly complete. They're trying to get a Descent 2 with nearly the whole cast back even though we know the fates of them within the first film and there's a Crank 2 popping out as well when Statham's character looked finished at the end. When word comes down the wire confirming or debunking this, we'll pass it along.

Ok, I'm guessing anyone reading this far will not need a SPOILER ALERT, since details are discussed in the article.... I'm trying to remember, do we actually see Neville die at the end?  Or do we just see an explosion?  If they wanted to go the sequel route, could they just show the ending again and show Neville opening a trap door underneath him and crawl in?  Of course, that makes me think of Annie Wilkes in Misery:  "That's not what happened!  They just cheated us!  He didn't get out of the cock-a-doodie CAR!!"  Whatever. I'm sure this story is bogus anyway.

Well, too be honest I`m happy that they didn`t go the route that Big Will wanted to go. The idea may sound good on paper. Scatch that. The idea doesn`t sound good at all. One of the main themes in  I AM LEGEND dealt with isolation. If we insert people into the equation even though its a few years before, it wouldn't tell us anything that we don`t already know.

As far as a sequel I am not sure I like it either but its the lesser of two evils. And they don't have to really change anything because the directors cut of the movie. The one Lawrence wanted to use had Will Smith's character living. It was a way better ending and was much more in tuned with the book. Come to think about it. They could actually turn parts of the book into a sequel. He could discover that the infected are evolving like in the book and are the new dominant species of human. That, I would pay to see. Get Big Will on the line. I have a great idea for him.

I was busy lauging at the 1st posting! Son of I Am Legend...classic!

I would be up for a sequel if it's done properly. Just like the 2nd posting, did we actually see Will die, so anything is possible. Still a plausible reason would have to be in place in order to make it worthwhile. If you go with the ending that shows him alive, does he come back to ground zero and try to save more infected? There's a lot that can debated if they chose to go with the director's ending. I would watch it.....

Calm down people, if it was posted on AICN then it must not be true.

fft5305...Ya, that would not make sense if that is what he did...You would have to question his actions and his thought process up to that point...First he ends up having feelings for this woman and this child and then we are shown this dire situation they are in where all hope appears to be lost so he puts them in this steel box, or is it a underground escape route?  because he has to stay behind and pull the pin in the grenade in order to save them...You have to question his actions if this is the case and if you have to do that then you have lost the character to the audience, all that he has done in the story to make a cure, all that he has experienced and went through up to that point has all been lost...

It did seem as though the man was losing his mind from somewhere  around the middle of the second act, early third and we can just assume that at the end he has finaly lost it all together and his thoughts and intentions are up for questioning which could take us into a sequal and thus give the audience a reason as to why we are watching a continuation of this story...It might go something like this...He ditches the woman and child, he goes into a crazed and dark state of mind, at times putting his life at risk, he would be without a secure home for a little while because he just does not care, then something happens where he is brought back from the dark side if you will and then he continues his research maybe in a goverment lab he discovers and then eventually finds a cure that could be administired through the air or something so that way mass infected can get it at once and then become cured, end of story, now that would make sense to me as to why we are watching a sequel and not a prequel...

Of course we all know just like hollywood that an audience does not like to see it's hero die at the end and on top of that not even show us that the infected have been saved, there was a bad reaction to the ending of this movie and the studio picked up on that real quick, I'm surprised that test screening did not show that as well, never the less I think the studio is trying very hard to make up for this by telling us, You don't know that he died in the end and we have a way of showing you that he did not plus an explanation as to why he did not and thus we continue the story with a man who is in a very dark place and that is where we continue this story from...I don't know, I think it can work but I for one like the idea of a prequel and how he ends up not dying through all the chaos taking place in NY and how he finds his place, reinforces it, builds his lab and while doing all of that, throw in some intense action sequences where he has to save his life a few times because he is a little careless and does not know know the routines of the infected that well...Once again, who knows, it could be good...

Who cares, we all going to see it anyway.

Big Willie style is all in it, getting jiggy wit it, nanana nanana nana nana. Where the hell is my profile pic?

Look Who's Legend Too? No thanks, hanso. He can get as jiggy as he wants but this is a stupid idea from a story standpoint. Of course all y'all are gonna go see it and insure a Look Who's Legend Now.

Speaking of which, thanks for ensuring the Halloween Two remake ya shleps.

yeah , i think the whole idea is rubbish . the director cut of the movie was better .i dont know i watched it again i really think the CGI zombies were badly done perhaps they should tack on the ending of PLANET OF THE APES  were Hestons Tayor is cussing them out !

hanso 11/26/2008 1:32:48 PM
