Clint Eastwood is working once again with Steven Spielberg on a World War II-themed movie. FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS: HEROES OF IWO JIMA is set up at Spielberg's DreamWorks studio and Eastwood will direct the project. Paul Haggis (DUE SOUTH) is writing the screenplay, based on the book of the same title by James Bradley and Ron Powers.
Bradley's father, Navy corpsman John Bradley, fought in the Iwo Jima battle where tens of thousands of soldiers on both sides died. The elder Bradley never spoke to his family about his experience at Iwo Jima; it was only after his father's death in 1994 that son James discovered his father's memoirs and decided to write the book.
Eastwood's next directing job is THE MILLION DOLLAR BABY which is slated to star Hilar Swank. The Oscar-winning director and screen legend first worked together with Spielberg on 1995's THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY.
