Summit Entertainment has captured their third box office record for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse after a full day of release. To stand alongside their previous two records ($30 million midnight tally and most theaters booked), the studio's latest installment has become the highest Wednesday opener of all-time by taking in $68.5 million on its first day. The previous record holder was Paramount's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which grabbed $62 million last summer.

Wednesday record or not, it still isn't the best opening day record of the Twilight franchise. "New Moon" premiered on a Friday with $72.7 million. In terms of single-day opening records, "Eclipse" is now in second place behind its 2009 predecessor. And in third place is the previous champion The Dark Knight with $67.2 million.

The single-day achievement also means that Summit Entertainment has basically made its production cost back in a single day. Barring the promotional costs, the production is listed at $68 million in coin.

We'll have more as the numbers come in throughout the weekend.

Oh man, i would really really really love to see the reactions and devastation of the millions of females who love Robert Pattinson once they find out he's gay. hahahaha..... the CHAOS!!!

Which means Violator's there with his pants open, ready to ravage Robert.

Yes. I saw those comments...

It would take too long to go from article to article, so I'll just say I posted my review and such in the blogs...now if Jarrod will just clean out the blog section, as it's become a red light district for any old spammer.

LoL!!!  "Violate" not "ravage"

dnbritt 7/1/2010 4:29:49 PM

So if we divide this by the average cost of a ticket, we have the first math formula to determine how many idiots are in America.  Finally.

StarlightGuard 7/1/2010 4:39:16 PM

I think I'd rather be ravaged.

It just sounds more appealing, as if it was good instead of just being violated.

So who is next Violater? Got Jasper on the brain?

It helps when you also have the highest number of screens ever for an opening of a movie..

i can't believe people pay to watch this movie.

And now you see why Titanic was the most overrated box office film until Avatar took it down.  Its all about who's cute and how much muscle the girls like to see just to get their hormones going.  Atleast men will admit about being horny, women deny being horny about as much as they deny about farting.
