FUNimation is making another earlier than usual push for one of their upcoming releases by having a trailer out for the September 28th release of the Eden of the East TV series. The show has an impressive pedigree behind it with Production I.G. dealing with the animation but it's also the writer/director of Kenji Kamiyama that raises a few eyebrows. Though it's been several years, his name is still tied heavily to the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series in the US. His main project after that has been the Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit series which was likewise considered to be top shelf among many, though it didn't fare as well in the US for a wide variety of reasons.
In addition to Kamiyama, the celebrated manga artist Chica Umino (Honey and Clover) was brought onto the production to create the original character design. The home video release of the series will be using the show opening sequence, with original music, as used in Japan in addition to the international version of the show opening.

Plot Summary: Akira Takizawa wakes up naked outside the White House with no memories. He’s got a gun in one hand, a cell phone in the other, and doesn’t know if he’s a good guy or one of the worst. He doesn’t remember the phone gives him instant access to ten billion yen and a woman who can make his most outlandish requests a reality. He doesn’t recall his connection to the ongoing missile attacks terrorizing the Japanese people. Or the part he played in the sudden disappearance of 20,000 shut-ins. He doesn’t even remember he’s supposed to save Japan and will be murdered if he fails. Whatever it is he’s tangled up in, Takizawa’s definitely in deep – and that’s not even scratching the surface.
FUNimation Entertainment will release the series on DVD and Blu-ray on September 28, 2010.
I'm definetly buying the Bluray version. This has action written all over it. The conspiracy part intrigued me too. I feel drawn to buy this title. This will add to my expanding anime library.

You can really see Chica Umino's influence. The main character looks like Morita from Honey & Clover.
