If you were a veteran cop and your daughter was murdered in front of you, what would you do? In Hollywood, that scenario translates to kicking some serious ass. And Warner Bros. Pictures has unleashed their first trailer for Edge of Darkness, which hammers that point down. You can check out the trailer, via Yahoo Movies, in the video player below.

The film stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts, Bojana Novakovic, Frank Grillo and Gbenga Akinnagbe. Director Martin Campbell (Golden Eye, Casino Royale, Zorro films) led the production from a story by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell.

Plot Concept: The story centers on a veteran cop (Gibson) whose only grown-up child (Novakovic) is murdered on the steps of his home. The cop unearths his daughter's secret life and discovers a world of corporate cover-ups and government collusion. Huston takes on the role of a shady businessman while Roberts will play the role of the daughter's distraught boyfriend.

Edge of Darkness will hit theaters January 29, 2010.

THANK GOD MEL GIBSON IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, that's not meant to be a pun. I love Mel. My favorite filmmaker and 2nd favorite actor of all time. I'm so happy to see him back in front of the camera. The movie looks pretty sweet too so opening weekend for me.

If only De Niro hadn't jumped ship, he might've actually been in a good movie for the first time in a long time. De Niro's last excellent movie is The Score. I would've preferred to see him instead of Ray Winstone.

Agreed. But Ray Winstone is a very good substitute for De Niro. I still think The Proposition is probably one of the best westerns of the last decade.

I'm not hating on Ray Winstone but in my book, no one is a good substitute for De Niro. De Niro is a legend in acting and Winstone has yet to achieve anything close to that status. The Proposition is an excellent movie. I like that movie because I'm a big Guy Pearce fan.

Edge of Darkness is still going to be a kickass movie with Winstone, but I was so pumped back when it was announced that Mel Gibson and De Niro were going to be in a movie together. Then De Niro left for creative differences and my excitement went down a little, not enough to keep me from watching this movie. The Gods will not keep me from watching this movie.

If only De Niro could've had creative differences with Avnet during filming of Righteous Kill. If only Pacino had those same differences. Then perhaps two of the greatest actors of all time wouldn't have made such a crappy flick.

Hey Death, I most definitely understand where you're coming from there. I remember writing up the news story about De Niro starring opposite Mel Gibson last year. It was one of those "Holy Shit" moments (positive). Obviously, that didn't work out but at least they got a decent actor to replace him. Winstone is no De Niro (not enough years of experience) but I trust him.

Maybe sometimes two rights make a wrong i.e. De Niro/Pacino. We will never know if De Niro would have worked with Gibson, O well. What I did see in the trailer I liked. Thank god Mel is back.

Did notice the Biblical referance at the end and like it.

It's about time Mel got in front of the camera again.  I mean I love what he has done behind the camera, eg. Passion and Apocalypto, but I definitely missed seeing him in the films.  My all time favorite movie is Braveheart so I guess I'd have to say Mel is my all time favorite actor.  The last film I saw him in was Signs.  And of course his pricelsee appearance as The Colonel ...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPYChyfxWNs

Seven years was a long time to wait but it looks like Mel is back to form.  This definitely reminds me of Payback but I love revenge films so I can't wait to see it.

Bennlooking forward to this since they announced it. I'm actually glad De Niro isn't in it. While I love his films he's become very one dimensional of late. He tends to fall into the same character regardless of the row... Stardust being an exception. Even when playing the comedian, it often results in a spoof of his mob persona. Anyway, the film looks good and it's nice to see Mel back in what looks like a solid role.
