Here is the second official clip from Marvel of Iron Man 3. Here Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) breaks down how his life has changed since the Battle of New York to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

The Plot: Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 features Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley.

IRON MAN 3 releases in theaters in 3D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 3, 2013.

Tony provides a great motive, movie-wise, for why he does what he does.  Love is always a workable story plotline!!

Wiseguy 4/25/2013 9:37:01 PM

blah blah blah not listening blah blah blah not watching nana nana na

Wiseguy!  You changed...!

@ DarthDestructicus,

I don't think Tony's motivation is love. Listen carefully to what he's saying and how he's saying it. Tony is desperately afraid and he doesn't know how to cope. So he immerses himself in a place where he has control: his workshop, his suits and that gives him some comfort. I don't doubt that he loves Pepper, but she's more of a security blanket right now. He's reacting like an average man: maximizing the potential for violence. This would be a perfect set-up to the Demon in the Bottle story-line for part 4.

It may just be incidental, but Tony is a great character in this respect because he shows us how noncomplacent we are, in our love affair with laptops, Starbucks and our vanities. You never know when death is coming. Instead of finding shelter in Ultimate Truth, we find it in distraction and ourselves. No one wants to think about eternity and God, which are all more real than a Marvel universe.

@Rizing.  Mmmm you're close.  Pepper's not just a security blanket.  She's the one constant in his life besides his suits, and he doesn't know what will happen if that constant is gone. Or dead.  So he's trying to keep her safe and next to him the only way he knows how.  More suits to protect them.

"No one wants to think about eternity and God, which are all more real than a Marvel universe."

Actually, God and the Marvel universe are equally real.

I bet he's regretting that whole "i AM ironman" press conference now...

Rizing 4/26/2013 11:39:36 AM

Hi makabriel:

NO ONE is a constant in anyone's life. That's not reality. No woman, no relative, no friend. Even if people managed to never disappoint you, and somehow be their sort-of, much-of the time, they will one day die. Tony Stark- like anyone who is afraid- is allowing that fear to seize him. He can't sleep because he has to control what he can't control. The whole concept of the Extremis armor is a great demonstration of what I'm saying.

Men who are afraid will overcompensate. Does having more suits means I have more power? C'mon. Think deeply about that. More doesn't always mean better. Or secure. Or quality.

Pepper is potentially a security blanket. That's the kind of awful and lovely deception that destroys men. The only constant in life is God.
