Eight Legs is Enough

John Ottman is one of the most unusual triple-threats working in Hollywood today. He started out both editing and providing an unusually memorable score for Bryan Singer's THE USUAL SUSPECTS, a standout success that launched Ottman's career as a composer. He's even directed movies (URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT). Ottman's scores (for movies like HALLOWEEN: H20; GOODBYE, LOVER and LAKE PLACID) have been sleek, atmospheric and sometimes slyly humorous, but for Ellory Elkayem's EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS Ottman has tackled perhaps the first action comedy about giant spiders.
"I was called in to have a meeting on a film called ARAC ATTACK, so I thought it was a war film," Ottman says, recalling his first discussions about the project. "So when I got in there I was completely surprised to find out it was a film about giant spiders. Two things were a pleasant surprise to me: one, that it was about giant spiders and would be fun to do; and second, that Dean Devlin was working on it, and I had always wanted to work with him. Dean was heavily involved in the process and he was always there."
