The Elevator: 'Gutwrencher'

By Rob M. Worley     February 22, 2008

On one side: producers, directors and other Hollywood players looking for the next big thing.

On the other side are the comic book artists and writers creating the next big thing.

In between is...The Comics2Film Elevator.

Five simple questions. Five quick answers. Just enough to start the ball rolling as you ride from ground to roof.

Today's guest in The Elevator is comics writer Shannon Eric Denton, writer and co-creator of 'Gutwrencher'

ELEVATOR (E):  Describe 'Gutwrencher'  in two sentences or less.

SHANNON ERIC DENTON (SED): Shortly before a disgruntled mans ten year high school reunion, he is infused with a murderous spirit and sees this bitter reunion as the perfect opportunity to exercise his demons.

E: If you were to compare 'Gutwrencher' to a movie or TV show what would it be?

SED: It's like 'The Ring' meets 'Carrie'.

E :Why do you think 'Gutwrencher' would translate to film/TV/animation?

SED: It's a fresh take on an archetype.  We give the audience what they expect from a horror tale but we do it in a brand new way.  Plus Steve, Keith, and myself have all optioned films before and we have a good sense for how to translate all of our own material into other media.

E: How can folks find your comic?

SED: 'Gutwrencher' is published by Shadowline/ Image Comics. It can be purchased wherever comics are sold, but here are the Diamond Ordering Codes just to help your retailer find it: DEC07 2050, JAN08 2075, FEB08 2154.

E: How can folks learn more about you and your work?

SED: I'm on the web at Steve Niles has a site at

The latest info about 'Gutwrencher' can be found on MySpace!
