Eli Roth Goes PG-13 and Sci-Fi

It seems that director Eli Roth is dropping his R-rating fetish and entering the world of PG-13 sci-fi action films, reports Reuters. The director is finishing a sci-fi spec, aimed at the family crowds, that is somewhere between Cloverfield and Transformers.

"This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie," he said Wednesday. "I went total chaos and pandemonium."

He declined to detail the plot ahead of a "big announcement" next month.

"I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I'm bled out. I wanna switch it up," added the 36-year-old.

"Everyone I know has been saying 'When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?' And finally, I'm gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see."

I'm kind of suprised by this. Eli Roth, the guy who did "Hostel" and "Cabin Fever", doing a PG-13 movie?? Has the man sold out perhaps? We shouldn't think that. Even David Lynch once made a G rated movie, and that was "The Straight Story". And look at Peter Jackson, with his "Bad Taste" and "Dead Alive" movies. But it's kind of a suprise reading this bit of news. It shouldn't matter what the rating is, as long as it's a good movie. But me and myself, I enjoy both PG-13 and R rated movies. And I like Eli Roth's movies, so I think seeing his version of sci-fi will be interesting.

I wouldn't call it selling out, just an "artist" branching out. Looking forward to see what he has come up with.

I agree with AlpineWoods. Robert Rodriguez made those Spy Kids movies and went right back to Sin City, Once upon a time in Mexico and Grind House. Good for him for Stretching his Genre legs.

Hopefully, he will focus on just making a good movie with an actual plot and intersting characters. I don't want to see a PG-13 version - that's pushing the boundaries of the rating - of a bloody Eli Roth movie.

Some where between Cloverfield and Transformers? Voltron perhaps? Or does he just mean in scope?

The guy wants to really cash in......I'm sure his other films made money, but not MEGA BUCKS.Of course, that's my opinion.....................

Is that really what people want? Mass destruction? I'd say people really want something a little different than that: namely, a big concept movie told on an epic scale. Our war in Iraq is about mass destruction, but "shock an awe" is, frankly, an idiotic concept that only the retarded could be impressed by. No, I'd say the public wants a movie that can pull their minds into a larger arena where mass destruction seems pointless against a powerful idea. We've seen plenty of destruction. How fresh and exhilarating it would be to see someone portrayed in power who could actually have an idea that avoids it.

I would love to see a two hour movie of shit just blowing up. Crazy action is what I love. Of course story is good, but seeing things blow up on screen is just pleasure. I am curious to see how he handles this. I mean, look where james Cameron started. You never know what could happen.

oh, and PS,,,,speaking of Sci-Fi and horror, I just finished watching The Mist, and wow,,,,,what a good movie. The ending is one of the most fucked up I have seen in any movie in a looong time. Check it out if you haven't
