The Hostel films may have put director Eli Roth on the tinsel town map but if the franchise continues for Lionsgate and Sony Pictures, it will have to do so without the leadership of the creator. While promoting his upcoming role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Edward Douglas at Shock Til You Drop sat down with the director to discuss the past, present and future.

One of the items is the rumored third installment in the Hostel series in which Roth says he's cool with another sequel but it will be without him.

That said, you won't be seeing him making any more "Hostel" movies, and he's no way involved with the plans to make a direct-to-DVD 3-quel to his best-known film. "That's another one like 'Cabin Fever 2,'" he told us. "The studio had made a lot of money with it so they want to keep going, and the fans, there's demand for it, and great. If I started something and other people want to continue it, go for it. I'm just not involved in anyway. There's no negativity about it. I just said, 'I put everything in my life for three years into these movies. I've said everything I have to say with it."

Like his friend Quentin it seems that Roth isn't interested in treading the same territory multiple times. While he wouldn't say much to Edward on his future sci-film film, Endangered Species, he did discuss his thoughts on the current Hollywood trend of remaking classics and why he left the adaptation of Stephen King's Cell.

See - that's the kind of attitude I like.  He doesn't care if they make sequels or remakes or whatnot of his works.  He knows it's not going to affect the originals in any way.  If the fans want it by all means let them have what they want.  I hate when fans, old directors, or whatnot get sore pussies about stuff like that.  It's ridiculous.

He's got Inglourious Bastards now which is going to be a masterpiece of chaos and excitement.

No wonder tho the sequals to hostel and cabin fever totally sucked too haha. No Roth no Good !

Of course he's all for remakes, th guy says he's developing one.  Anyone involved with a remake ain't going to say differently.

Hostel sucked, good story yes, but the film sucked.

Ditto, the idea had potential but it was turned into a shock-fest, which is ok with me, but it could've been much better. Hell this could've been another Saw, it had all the shock value like Saw it just needed to be better developed IMHO
