Emma Watson done with "Harry Potter"?

According to WENN, Emma Watson was offered $3.9 million to reprise her role as Hermione Granger in upcoming Harry Potter films, but declined to accept.

Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in films, told News of the World, "Emma doesn't want to do it anymore. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter.'"

"Daniel and I are distant from her now. We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming."

Rumors have it that she has tired of the series and would like to move onto other things.

KJ's Take:  Hopefully this is just a stupid ploy for more money, and not true.  That said, Hermione's role in the coming stories is much lighter than it was early on in the novels, I really don't think recasting it would harm the franchise in the slightest.

This is sucky news. I am hoping it is not true. Recasting, even if her charater is less, would change the vibe of the movies.

I do not get how people want to always hinder their success.

I have heard of this a few times, so I am guessing that she is finally out of it.

Sometimes, it's not a ploy, but just exactly as advertised. A person can tire of even a good thing.

If they wanted to ensure her availability for seven movies, they should've given her a contract for seven movies. (Addendum: though, frankly, that would be a crazy thing to do to an 11 year old. Who can hold a person to a decision, for 10+ years, that they made when they were 11?)

Still, the actor for Dumbledore changed (by necessity) and things went on.

And, really, the kids have been changing appearance pretty significantly from movie to movie, anyway, even with the same actor playing the part. I honestly wasn't even sure whether Draco Malfoy was being played by the same guy from #2 to #3.

Dear Emma:

I know you may not be reading this, but I thought maybe I would give you some encouragement.

Many actors have been "Type Cast" as particular characters and have had one of 2 things happen to them. They either grow out of it and become Iconic in other roles, or they branch out into other more obscure work.

I Support as a fan whatever decision you make and I can say you will be sorely missed, so if you do say good-bye to this series i wish you all the best of luck in your future.

"Friends come and Go." But remember some friends you make at this time of your life may bethe ones you will need in your future, so before you truly commit to not being a part of this, make sure you understand that these decisions may effect more than your career.

And lastly, thanks for all your hard work in these last 5 films. And be well.

Dear Emma

I totally agree with you, good thinking.

From what I've read before, when she says 'move on to other things' she was talking about acting itself.

I was under the impression that she didn't want to act anymore.

The BBC says Emma denies the rumours. She claims that she wants to do the last two movies.

"I do not get how people want to always hinder their success."...I agree with theCollector.

"Many actors have been "Type Cast" as particular characters and have had one of 2 things happen to them. They either grow out of it and become Iconic in other roles, or they branch out into other more obscure work."...I agree with lazerman.

Two ways to look at this:

1) If you're an young, up-and-coming actor/actress who probably spent some years taking dance and singing lessons, having done bit parts in plays, tv, & movies, etc., and finally landed a supporting role in a motion picture (a quite successful motion picture based on a best-selling book that spawns a few sequels), and it becomes a box office smash, worldwide...I don't believe that that young actor/actress should bite the hands that feeds...It was the success of the Harry Potter films that made Emma Watson. I WOULD LOVE to be "typed-cast" in a movie that spawned a series of successful sequels...$3.9 MILLION just reprise the role of Hermione Granger!!! Okay, maybe $3.9 million IS NOT much in today's Hollywood 's standard of salaries for up-and-coming stars.

2) True with what lazerman said...Look at, uh...I don't know, say...Michael J. Fox, respectively. He was a supporting actor in a very short-lived tv show called "Hometown" (1980), then a couple later became the well-known role of the quasi-Republican son of the ex-hippie couple, Alex P. Keaton in that beloved, NBC show, "Family Ties" (1982-89), which catapulted him to megastardom throughout the 80's with the "Back to the Future" trilogy as well as other relatively successful films, in the 90's he came back to the small screen in the ABC show, "Spin City" (before he formally left the show, due to ailment, and replaced by actor, Charlie Sheen.

Or, a young actor/actress could end up like Scotty Schwartz, the former child star turned minor porn star. Scotty was the freckle-faced, curly-haired kid in 1982's "The Toy" starring the late Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor. Scotty was also in 1983's A Christmas Story, (he was Flick, Ralphie's friend whose tongue was frozen stuck to a telephone pole), I'm sure everyone remembers that movie and that scene...(Not to be confused with Scott Schwartz, the burly-looking fellow from Ocean's Eleven & Ocean's Twelve), respectively.

BOTTOM LINE: TAKE THE MONEY, DO THE MOVIE AND BE DONE WITH IT...IF THE ACTOR/ACTRESS NO LONGER CARES TO BE DOING FILMS, THERE'S ALWAYS SCHOOL!

I never understand why actors "get tired" of something that clearly has an endpoint. There's only going to be 7 movies. Take the money and do them. She's what? 17? It should be plenty easy for her to put Hermione behind her after the last film.

It would be a shame for the three core characters to change during the series, but I can understand if she wants to move on. She's done a great job in the films, so good luck to her if she's done. I hope she's banked some of her money so she can pick roles that she wants to play. I'm sure there will be a lot of doors open for her.
