how about Titan A.E.? That movie had some killer combinations of cgi and animation. the destruction of the moon was pretty cool

Yup, Kara is totally right, the one under Wyoming has the potential!!

I always liked The Day After from the 80's, Steve Guttenberg and Jason Robards were in it.  One of the scariest nuke films ever made.........with the exception of Trinity and Beyond, cuz all that shit is real!!

The Road is an amazing end of the world movie. The most realistic I have seen, and I hear it wasn't even as harsh as the book.

Children of Men was a great movie as well, it may hav ended with a hopeful future, it showed a greatly degrading civilization.

All the movies above are great with the exception of Wall E. I really did not care for that one at all. I too LOVE In the Mouth of Madness. Always a huge John Carpenter fan.

I also really enjoyed The Book of Eli. I am always up for a Denzel Washington movie.

Yeah, Testament! Geez, that had a sad ending. Also the similar 70's TV movie The Day After.

Karas, I seem to remember some scientist saying there isn't any guaranteed way to destroy the entire human race. Isolated pockets somewhere can possibly survive. But I wouldn't think it wouldn't be very pretty.

I like what George Carlin once said about humans destroying the Earth. He basically said humans can dump every toxic chemical into the air, land, and sea. We could kill as many animals we want. And set off every nuclear bomb in the world and we still couldn't hurt the Earth. It's already been bombarded by radiation and hit by asteroids repeatedly through its billions of years of existence. It'll just incorporate whatever we throw into it like plastic in its ecosystem and just keep on going. But it will just get really bad for humans to still live here.

Humans are like cockroaches. I truly believe even if there was a massive extinction level event humans would endure. We breed ay too much and are too smart to be caught unawares 100% . If for example the super volcano is Yellow Stone was about to go super nova the Governments of the world would go to ground and leave the rest of us small people to die. HA!

In the Mouth of Madness is the best n the list IMHO. Best Cthulhu ever made with out actually having Cthulhu in it.

I think the sun burning out or exploding can end us all.  Of course I know nothing of how the sun works except what the movies tell me.

Best end of the world movie (and there are many) IMHO came from the Canadians.

Don McKellar's "Last Night".

No amazing F/X. Just a character driven story that is humble and introspective.

Brilliant.

mellowdoux, love that movie ''last night'', great great movie.

@hanso -Sol does not have enough mass to go super nova. It will burn out and go dead in about 3.5 billion years. I don't think that is on our list of potential extinction events. Of course a major Sun Flare may make that a moot point as if one is big enough it could fry the Earth like a burrito in a microwave.
