Did the Mania staff really not know that the Ender books have a huge following until posting that teaser poster? That just seems hard to imagine.

Anyway, I'm super excited for this movie.  I know when I saw Orson Scott Card speak in college (maybe 6 years ago, now), he indicated that he was directly involved in adapting the story for the big screen, which gives me hope.  He also said that the movie would weave together both Game and Shadow, which I think is absolutely critical to successfully adapting this story for a  movie.

Somehow I missed that this movie was being made.  So awesome.  I read them forever ago, but I love the books.   I've never read the Ender's Shadow angles with Bean and Ender's siblings.

Wasn't Ender like 7 years old in the books?  This kid looks too old.  Will still love the movie but him being younger than most everyone else was something that added dimension to the story.

Just finished listening to the audio book of Enders Shadow.  At the end of the book is an afterword by OSC in which he describes the painful process he's gone through in trying to deal with the Hollywood people who have wanted to make Ender's Game into a film since it was first published, and how combining the stories of Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow into one story finally made the whole thing work as a movie.

OSC has always required that Ender be no older than twelve in the movie.  Previous producers kept trying to work around it.  One even went so far as to agree to cast someone who could play the character at age twelve on the first page of the contract, but then hidden way at the back page of the contract was a clause which nullified the original requirement for a twelve year old character.  Apparently that producer didn't think that OSC would be savy enough to look over the contract.  He was wrong.

Wyldstaar...thanks for that interesting information.  Glad to hear that OSC didn't cave in to Hollywood pressures.  Sometimes when people see numbers with 6 zeroes after them their artistic integrity goes down the tube, also Hollywood has been known to steal an idea / concept and make it their way when they couldn't bend an author's will.  Wish some Rock stars had that kind of integrity and refused to sell their songs to advertisers who turned them into commercial jingles.

I was very concerned when I heard they were going to film this fabulous book until I saw the casting.  That kid is going to be perfect.
