Enders Game VS Catching Fire

The Battle for November 2013

By Robert T. Trate     April 10, 2012
Source: Entertainment Weekly

Ender’s Game, the adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s seminal sci-fi YA novel starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, and Abigail Breslin, has staked out some interesting territory today. Originally slated for release on March 15, 2013, Summit Entertainment announced today the film had been pushed to Nov. 1, 2013.

That puts Ender’s Game – currently in production with director Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) at the helm — just three weeks ahead of the release date for the thematically similar Hunger Games‘ sequel Catching Fire. That franchise is the newly minted crown jewel for Lionsgate — which recently purchased Summit for $412 million. Apparently, the Summit and Lionsgate folks think there’s room in the same month for two dystopian literary adaptations about a group of adolescent children rounded up by a totalitarian government to do battle with each other. Of course, Nov. 2013 is a long way off, and Catching Fire has yet to nail down its director, let alone commence production. It is possible these release dates will change.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

I think the best way to make a live action Ender's Game would be to make a mini-series. Unless, they plan on breaking the book up into two or three seperate films. Not sure that could work, though.

Time will tell.

It's 3 weeks apart, plenty of time for Ender's to make some money.

Besides Ender's Game is for the men, the ladies can wait to see that other b.s.

Also, Enders' Game is substantially better than the Hunger Games' books.  Especially if you go into the sequels or bean books.

Assuming the movie is done well, it should have no issues.

Well even though Ender's is farsuperior.  That girlie tween shit is gonna make a goo gog of money. If they do Ender's Game right though it should be a contender.

I admit that it's been about a decade since I read any of the Ender books, but I see very little similarlity between Ender's Game and the Hunger Games books.  I don't see any real conflict here.

I loved the first book of Ender.  Amazing.  Fastest book I ever read, couldn't put it down.  The second book wasn't nearly as good and too easy to figure out the ending.  That said I thought Hunger Games was pretty cool.  I really liked it and I am not going to rip on it at all, but yea 3 weeks ahead, no problem at all.
