Wait.... we were allowed to anonymously feel up the cheerleaders in the hallways? Dammit all to Hell!
Anyway, I don't think TV writers are trying to pick on any particular group of people. In fact, cheerleaders aren't mentioned anywhere in the article. But anywho... I think the reason reunions are picked on so much is because the writers are trying to tap in to the near-universal misery of the teen angst that everyone felt at that age. The misery that helped form many of our perceptions and social interactions for the decade following high school. Until we got out in the real world and began realizing that the real world works much differently. Well.... most people realized it.

Aaah, TV. Why do you hate HS reunions so much? An alumni dies or commits a crime, the main characters are forced to attend, and there's always an evil cheerleader.
Come here, TV writers, let me help you. You see, the cheerleaders weren't trying to make you feel bad. They were just really, really busy. The practices were grueling, they were trying to keep up their GPAs, and they often heard more insults than kind words. I don't even want to mention the anonymous feel-ups in the crowded hallways, but I will. How about those male teachers, huh? Puh - lease.. don't stand so close to me. Oh yeah, let's talk about the graphicly worded come-ons from some kid - right in the hallway in front of everyone.
Think about it. When you tried to talk to a cheerleader, and she gave you that withering look, it was probably more defensive than uppity.
That's my PSA for TV Writers: High School - it was about the same for everyone and you're not the only ones who felt picked on.
