TOO AWESOME

By far the best comedy animation I've ever watched. The jokes in Gintama is pretty much "Anything Goes". It's currently on episode 197 and still going strong. It had rumors that Sunrise will cut the production after 4 years of running on TV. Believe or not, episode 150 was entirely dedicated to making fun of the rumor and even "Jump" the magazine (which features Gintama). Gintama is a rare animation that honors every details presented in manga and exceeds the quality of the manga. Its release rate is also very much inline with the manga itself.

very classic, The first 2 seasons are the best. The third season "Full Throttle" is also pretty good although the stories aren't as interesting as the first 2 seasons. They did however bring back all the original せいゆう (voice actors) for the 3rd season :)

 Rei Ayanami, I definitely agree on this one. 

The list IMO is kinda off. There are so many great iconic characters that should've made it to this list (Saint Seiya, anyone?)
