I am a HUGE Star Wars EU fanatic! I LOVE all the EU characters and stories and I think it gives a lot of material for these sequels, that could give more "awesomeness" to the films over-all. I would absolutely LOVE to see the Yuuzhan Vong in some capacity, because to me, no series was as powerful or as BAD ASS as the Vector Prime series!

I know I am asking a lot, and there is probably about as much of a chance of this happening as me making Gold from sheet rock, but hey, I can dream!!! At least now we CAN dream again about what the possibilities for the upcoming Star Wars movies will bring!!! I want MORE NEWS!!!

I agree Vermithrax.  Since 1989 fans have been buying dozens and dozens of Star Wars novels, making Lucasbooks, Bantam, and Del Rey's line the most prolific and lucrative literary series ever.  I think, at the very least, they owe the multitude of fans who supported that franchise at least a nugget of EU continuity.

I would hate to watch the films and see that Han and Leia never married, Luke was some kind of hermit who went missing for decades, and there was never a Jaina Solo or Mara Jade.  That would be lame and a huge cheat for fans of the books that gave the franchise millions of dollars and hours reading.

I'm not asking for 100% crossover in the films, but at least give us some nuggets of carryover from the EU.

The biggest question will be whether we will have Chewbacca in Episode 7, as we knew what happened to him in Vector Prime....

Taking that Chewbacca Death from Vector Prime would really stretch it, I think, if they went that route. Chewy is ome of the most beloved non-human characters in Star Wars. Vector Prime took a HUGE risk, and I remember the moment I read that "scene" of Chewy sacrificing himself to save young Anakin Solo from the Yuuzhan attack. And then Hans subsequent spiral down to depression and dispare. Vector Prime is a rough book, since it's not all neat and tidy for the SW characters.

In fact, the whole Vector Prime Series of books, 22 or so, if I remember correctly, were brutal, painful, and even down right depressing in their own way, but it was an absolute fantastic series of books. There were also a ton of "hero" moments, especially one where Luke saves Jacen Solo from the Vong and was weilding 2 lightsabers in his assault! That was awesome!! I read somewhere that some 300 Trillion or more lives were lost to the Yuuzhan Vong, incuding a lot of Jedi! The "Vong" were far more destructive and devistating on the Galaxy than the Empire ever was. They could make a whole High Quality/Adult Oriented TV Series based on this material alone, and it would have to have a PG-13 style rating, if not even close to R for some of it, if done correctly!

As you can see, I am a huge fan of the Vector Prime Storyline. Amazing amazing series of books! THE most fun I ever had in the SW Universe, bar none! Not even the Thrawn Trilogy comes close!

@ Verithrax  - It was indeed a very good series.  Not sure that it needed to be 21 books long though, but I definitely read every one.  I am about 99% certain we will see Chewbacca in the new films for the exact reasons you mention.  My favorite storylines were the ones involving the Solo kids, especially Jacen's capture by the Vong, Jaina's struggles with her identity and her blossoming relationship with Jagged Fel, and Anakin Solo's rise from contributing to the cause Chewy's death through to his own heroic sacrifice against the Throxyn in Star by Star.  I think, like you I suspect, those characters would be great additions to Episode 7, assuming they started with a blank slate.  I would love to see Mara Jade and Talon Karde in there as well.

Unltimately, no matter which way they choose, if Episode 7 - 9 are well done, I will forgive them, but I think they owe us fans of the books some EU nuggets / credibility.  One thing I will have a hard time with, however, is if they ignore the EU in the new sequels and then release a whole bunch of new canon stories that take place between ROTJ and Episode 7.  That would be cheap and dirty on their part, and I don't think I would want to read them...

Rumors that make me excited!!

Rumor: Benedict Cumberbatch In Talks For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

westend 9/2/2013 8:49:00 PM

Cumberbatch would be perfect for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Modo 9/4/2013 8:30:25 PM

That would probably be too good to be true, westend.

If they did Thrawn but just a bit later mixed with the Solo Twins I would shit myself with joy.
