That's the previous 6 original release dates for the films. If Disney/LFL/Bad Robot needed more time, they should have...well, first of all, not announce a release before you even hire a director. But aside from that, push it back to May 2016. Traditions aren't meant to be broken.

This doesn't make me anticipate the movie less, but it does make me wonder how they're going to treat the rest of the legacy.

It's just a date, WarCry.  I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I don't have a problem with this at all.

samurai1138 11/8/2013 3:24:45 AM

Disney already has the summers locked up. They can't compete with their own product. Holiday release date is their best bet to maximize dollars. Besides, now there's something to watch in Jan/Feb.

Dazzler 11/8/2013 3:47:25 AM

I don't mind the release date either.  I like the sound of this cracked whip!  They might even give us a great movie this time.

goldeneyez 11/8/2013 5:18:41 AM

I agree with Warcry, they need to push it back and release it in May.  It's already going to be different, no 20th Centurty Fox fanfare to start it out, the least they can do is mke the rest of it fit into the Star Wars experience.

jedibanner 11/8/2013 5:27:04 AM

I get the feeling the original release date was going to be May 2015 but since it was clear they needed more time, it was pushed to December.

Will it work? Will it show that 6 months  difference would've made a difference (if it was to be released in may 2016)?

Time will tell...but I prefer a late date in 2015 then an earlier one.

ElBaz13 11/8/2013 5:28:43 AM

This is because of Avengers 2.

Dates don't matter Warcry. The fans are still there. This is a new era or new people working on the SW trilogy. Time to put the past aside.

December has been very good for franchises. LOTR an Avatar made big money.

The bonus for having a December releases date. Merchandise close to the holiday season. SW is a mechandise cash cow and this will benefit them big time.

Who gives a two ton shit about the release date?  LOL  This movie will break every money making record in the history of movies for the rest of movie history and is most likely going to be the best Star Wars made since Empire.

JonnyRotten 11/8/2013 6:12:04 AM

I agree with Axia ... this will break records regardless of the release date , I just hope they don't screw it up by making it  "disney like".

ElBaz13 11/8/2013 6:15:03 AM

Define "Disney-like"

Marvel were bought by Disney and were never meddled with by the House of Mouse both in the comic publication and movies.

Expect the same with Lucasfilm.
