Just make a good ... nay, great ... movie ...

I'm not putting much merit in this particulair rumor.  I think fanboys said this when it was first announced there would be sequels.

This rumour is a day old and was already debunked.

Go to theforce net and you will see.

The Internet has been abuzz with speculation about a Reuters article that supposedly included leaked information about Star Wars: Episode VII, but as it turns out, the article misstated things a bit. This Reuters piece, written by Michael McDonald, connected the hype surrounding the Mayan apocalypse to the Star Wars universe through the Mayan temples in Guatemala that were used as the Rebel base on Yavin 4. The original story included the following paragraph:

"Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal."

This paragraph understandably caused a lot of excitement and confusion. I assumed right away that McDonald had either misunderstood the role of the Expanded Universe novels about Luke Skywalker's Jedi academy on Yavin 4 or misinterpreted what some fans told him when he asked about the Guatemalan temples. As it turns out, I was right on both counts. I reached out to McDonald by email, and here's what he had to say:

"This was a mistake. I misunderstood what fan clubs had told me and shown me in book plots and that storyline has not been announced by Disney. Perhaps I should have written something along the lines of 'Yavin 4 appears in several Star Wars book plots and while Guatemala fans said they hope film crews return to Tikal, the company has not announced plans for the new episode.'"

The article now features a correction about this part of the story. So there you have it: There's nothing to see here, certainly not Episode VII story details. Move along, move along.

ElBlaz:  Laughing out loud.

i ran across this in an article about the city where they filmed the scenes for Yavin 4 during the original trilogy. the article was about how the 12/12/12 craze has attracted alot of tourism to the site because it is steeped in mayan mythology about the end of the world. they made a few comments about when Lucas shot there and that there was speculation about whether or not they would shoot the new trilogy there since the story involves Luke returning to Yavin 4 to start the academy. so whoever leeked this leeked it to multiple sources and its showing up in the most random of news articles

VTGamehendge, I read that same story except the story I read on yahoo was that he was allowed to read all the treatments and he said 7,8,9 were the best but he also said eps 1,2,3 were the worst by far and this was in the early 90's when he read them long before they were even thought about being in production. Thought it was funny when I read that. Even the outlines on paper sucked balls.

VTGamehendge, to each their own, but it wouldn't make sense for Luke to go over to the dark side and become Emperor because he had already defeated that temptation at the climax of Return of the Jedi.

I would love to see a series of Star Wars movies based on the books: Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales of Mos Eisley Cantina, and Tales from Jabba's Palace.

VTGamehendge 12/20/2012 11:36:50 PM

True, he defeated the temptation to kill his father and take his place with the Emperor.  But then his father ultimately died.  Who's to say what happened in the following years?  The "temptation" just vanishes?  I would liken it to alcoholism or drug addiction.  And the fact that his father was basically the most powerful Jedi and turned to the Dark Side...I actually think it makes perfect sense for Luke to turn to the Dark Side and follow in his father's footsteps.

But then again, who says anything has to make sense?

Again, I'm with Wiseguy on this...if it wasn't on screen, in a movie or TV series, it's not cannon...jeez, Wiseguy, this is crazy...if it weren't for James Cameron, we'd get along and agree SO much more often than we actually do!

EVERYBODY HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

@VTGamehendge - Really? I never heard about that! That would be awesome. I would SO be down for that. Jedi Master Leia Organa Solo and her twins Jaina and Jacen VS Darth (Insert Sith Name) Luke. Then Luke turn Jacen to the darkside and the whole system starts over again.

Man, the Universe should just gang up on the Skywalker clan and kill them ALL.
