A little bit of news surfaced over the weekend about The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. It turns out that the first human image of Beorn (played by Mikael Persbrandt) has surfaced. We have seen the character already, as a bear, in promotional images, but now we have look at the Beorn in human form (see below). It looks as if it is from one of those movie tie-in journals that they sell at book stores.
Who is Beorn? According to J.R.R. Tolkien “Beorn was of immense size and strength for a man, and retained his size and strength in bear-form. He had black hair (in either form) and a thick black beard and broad shoulders (in human form). While not a "giant" outright, Beorn's human form was of such great size”.

What do you think Maniacs?

Synopsis: The film continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous Mirkwood Forest. After escaping capture by the dangerous Woodland Elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any before, which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug features Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, with Orlando Bloom and (in alphabetical order) John Bell, Manu Bennett, Lawrence Makoare, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, Antony Sher, and Aidan Turner.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug arrives December 13, 2013.

I'm sure the studio and Jackson will need to break Beorn's appearances down into 3 more separate movies before continuing on.  $$$$
