great news on the sci-fi/drama front.

This is excellent news. Eric Stoltz is a great, subtle actor who chooses only what he wants. He was originally cast in "Back to the Future", but was fired because my sense is he didn't behave enough like the stereotype hot-shot American teen Hollywood propagandized to us (that we should all be trouble-making kids with overbearing parents, a sense of cock-eyed charm and phony optimism with biting wit, great friends, keys to the car/skateboard in one hand and a hot girlfriend on the other arm) that Michael J. Fox (bless his good nature) was able to pull off.

This bodes well. I just wish Ron Moore would write the damn thing instead of letting other writers ruin his vision a la BSG Season 4. Very disappointed with that.

CAPRIKHAAAAAANNNNN!!!

Yo so this dude builds the Cylones cause the humans failed in saving a family member so he needed to create new technology? His daughter gonna fall in love with an Adama? I'd like to see a cameo of the Baltar family somewhere, although none of them were from Caprica and were mostly farmers if I remember Gaius correctly.

Good first choice for named actors. They better make this a little more fun than BSG is right now. I want to slit my wrists now after every ep. Did you see what they did for Kira from Deep Space nine this week?

Dazzler, they've said the show will be different in tone, at the top of the human civilization just before the cylons. So I guess it will not be that depressive. About what they did to Kira, my guess is that they're building up to something very, very big.

Season 4 isn't as "fun" as season 1, or 2, but they've been building towards this for the past 3 years, so I'm curious as to what you expected. They can't just have an eternal quest for Earth, ala Star Trek Voyager. Even as cool as Viper/Raider battles are, that cannot be the entire series. If you want a sci-fi show with no consequences or heartache go watch some Stargate (yawn) or some old school Star Trek. The guys in the red shirts always die first, and you always know Kirk and Spock are going to be okay. Maybe that would be easier to handle. Don't get me wrong, I love Trek, but this show has never been about a homogenized, happy-fun-time, or exploring strange new worlds in a shiny luxury yacht. The show opened with humanity being nearly wiped out, and tension has been a major factor in the show for the past two seasons. Other writers aren't "ruining" Moore's vision, they've known where they were going with this since the Cylon invasion of New Caprica. RAZOR forshadowed these events over a year ago, so Moore is very much involved in the direction the show is taking, and the current writers are working within a specific outline with very clear roadmaps as to where things are headed. It isn't as if they're making it up as they go.

I don't want to see Caprica turn into a family drama in space. If the show is picked up I want to eventually see the Cylon insurrection, and the beginnings of the Cylon war. I want to see Cylon butlers, chefs and factory workers turn on their masters, I want to see the groundwork for what is to follow. Seeing Husker suit up for his first Viper mission a few seasons in would be pretty sweet.

I guess I'll have to get BSG on Netflix before this show comes out? Stoltz has always been pretty good. He was great in Butterfly Effect (surprisingly good movie). Really creepy. Ick. But he played it well.

This looks like it's shaping up to be a great drama but I'm also worried that it will become a Sci-Fi Brothers & Sisters. Time will tell.
Here is a webpage talking about Eric Stoltz in BTTF with comparison photos. For some reason the studio has never released any of the shot footage.

This is the first I’ve heard about this spin-off. I have to admit I have very mixed feelings about it. On one hand I’d love to see more of the mythos of Moore’s BSG, but on the other hand, they promised us noi silly spin-offs. Yet here we have one. Someone posted that Moore is directly involved...is this true? Can some one fill me in on the details of this series, or direct me to a site or link that will.

On a side note since they are not reviewing new BSG episodes since ep. 4 They are getting really good. This weeks episode had me on the edge of my seat. I know some people don’t like the direction it’s heading, but I do. I couldn’t be happier with the way it is all unfolding.

Another side note, I got to see Jamie Bamber at The Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle this weekend. Very cool guy (English accent, it was weird to hear him speak and sound like Baltar) He answered as many questions as we could ask, and Hanso if your out there, he thinks Helo is a bitch too ;)

Another side note pertaining to the always excellent level of journalism on this site (sarcasm) How could you cite Butterfly Effect, and Mask as Stoltz movies of notoriety???

Seriously Butterfly Effect was good, but He’s been in much better fils , ummm a little thing called Pulp Fiction “PRANK CALL!, WRONG NUMBER!” classic.

I really admire Stolz's work, but it's so difficult to really pull off a prequel. Knowing the outcome, even if it's something that happens far in the future, deadens a lot of the emotions I would normally feel for the characters. Not saying that it's impossible, by any means, but it's so hard to pull it off well.
