What They Say
Dr. Mine Kujyou is out to save the world. She's determined to stop Isaac, a genetically engineered superbeing, from destroying humanity. But her quest has led her somewhere unexpected: to an ordinary woman who can't escape her past - and who might hold the key to finding the elusive Isaac.

The Review
Much as Shuro and Mine had formed a bond out of mutual need, so had Isaac and Yuri. Yuri's bond with Isaac arose out of her sympathy for him as a kindred spirit. His response to her offer of a kind of friendship and support isn't completely manipulative on his part. He does recognize that she has been abused as he has and does try to help her remove bad things from her life. Isaac may be intellectually far beyond his "age", but he is emotionally and morally stunted, and a relationship with the emotionally desperate and needy Yuri had not made for a winning combination.

However, events of volume six trigger a change in this relationship. Yuri, so desperate for a mother's love and attention, is frightened by Isaac's treatment of his "mother". She begins to distance herself from Isaac and takes action to remove what Isaac considers a necessary armament in his fight with Shuro - Yuri steals the gun Isaac had obtained from Sakaki san. Much as her "twin", Mine, has evolved, Yuri finds the ability to act with courage.

Mine is persistent and successful in trying to reach Yuri's mother about her daughter's needs and feelings, and things look to be on the way to becoming brighter for Yuri. Or do they? The meeting of Yuri's mother and Isaac in search for the missing gun has disastrous consequences.

In what has to be the emotional centerpiece of this volume, Soryo contrasts Isaac's treatment of his "mother" with a major turning point for Shuro, his action, reaction and reflection upon the death of Keisuke san, his adoptive "father". Soryo now shows how far Shuro has come in learning, understanding and feeling what it is to be human, as she had done with Mine in the previous volume.

With all characters in their positions, the fight for humanity is ready to start.
